Introduction
This was a nice opportunity to check out current Champagne releases, including some of K&L's direct imports, as well as to see L.A. wine friends I haven't seen for awhile. I was so busy trying to taste everything--over 55 Champagnes in a few hours--that I failed to take pictures. A. David Chan is a great wine event photographer, so my thanks to him for allowing me to include some of his pics here.
My Champagne of the day was the Krug Grande Cuvée. The 1997 Salon Champagne Brut Blanc de Blancs was also a delicious treat, as was the 1998 Gosset Champagne Celebris Brut. From this tasting and the Masters of Champagne tasting in San Francisco a couple months ago, my sense is that the NVs are, for the most part, weaker this year than those from the same producers last year and the year before. Always a fun event.
