Crystal French Wine Sale (Albert Bichot Wines)

A new label that Crystal is bringing in. Albert Bichot is quite a big negociant in France but my original impression of them is that they are the Jacob's Creek of France.

  France, Burgundy, Bourgogne Blanc

  Lifted alcohol underlying white flowers and some almonds. Weak lemon-flavoured mineral water. Suprisingly heatless , this wine needs more life and kick.

• 2004 Maison Albert Bichot Chablis Grand Cru Moutonne Domaine Long-Depaquit 85 Points

  France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru

  Golden. Warm and broad nose of butter covered cotton candy and hot summer indian white flowers. Clean lemons lined with cashews, almonds and lovely ripeness. A very comfortable wine showing good structure.

• 2005 Maison Albert Bichot Meursault 1er Cru Charmes Domaine du Pavillon 85 Points

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru

  Light gold. Very focused beam of almond paste, lacquer carrying fresh floral notes. Big unabashed grapefruit smeared all over the sides of the cheek. A stream of nail polish vapour shoots through the nose up to the brain like when eating wasabi. Great kick.

  Oyster shells with an oof of butteriness and something pungently sharp. Good half bright stonefruits that end with a sparkling finish.

  Smells of pink cherries and very sweet tempanillo like. Dried up and flavourless cherries with no acid, artificial sweetness and very short length. Characterless and souless effort. Poor.

• 2003 Maison Albert Bichot Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Malconsorts Domaine du Clos Frantin 84 Points

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru

  Brambly crayons and burnt rubber tyres which is telling of the vintage. Good weigthy black cherries although I would prefer a little more acidity. A lot of dried herb character and finishes pretty earthy.

• 2004 Maison Albert Bichot Clos Vougeot Domaine du Clos Frantin 83 Points

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru

  Lovely ruby. Lightly stewed nose of cherries, hawthone and strawberries which initially reminds me of Leroy bourgogne. On the palate, dried berries with boiled hawthone water laced with earthy tones and dried mushrooms. However, it drops off too quickly on the finish. With a very promising nose, it just couldn't hold up on its act to the end.

  Interestingly sharp aromas of indian flowers with brambles. Fresh red fruits provide good acidity covered by a layer of chalky tannnins. Medium length. A very fresh effort.

• 2005 Maison Albert Bichot Pommard Clos des Ursulines Domaine du Pavillon 83 Points

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Pommard

  Brambly cherries and smells of a woodshed. A much better palate with good width and a body of medium ripe cherries pulling with it some woody dusty earthy tones on the finish. Dry chalky tannins. Finishes birghtly but a pity that it didn't last longer.

• 2005 Maison Albert Bichot Corton-Clos des Maréchaudes Domaine du Pavillon 82 Points

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru

  Crayons and a slim beam of vanilla beans tainted with just some green peppers. Has the best acidity among the range tasted but is lacking needed fruit complexity and ripeness.

Decently made burgs but a little pricey. They do have a wide range but am not sure i see consistency across vintages as their strength.
