Flight 1 (1 Note)

  • 2000 Krug Champagne Vintage Brut 94 Points

    France, Champagne

    Glass: Unknown White
The bottle was popped and poured without decanting, served across a five-course restaurant menu.
The wine presents a clear, deep golden colour with good luminosity, consistent with over two decades of age.
On the nose, clean and of pronounced intensity, the wine is fully developed yet shows no signs of fatigue. Tertiary notes of caramel and toffee are interwoven with secondary autolytic character of brioche and toasted pastry. A thread of freshness persists underneath, lending balance and harmony to a complex, layered bouquet.
On the palate, the wine is dry with high, lively acidity that provides tension and energy throughout. The mousse is delicate and fully integrated. Body is medium(+), and flavour intensity is pronounced, mirroring the nose with caramel, brioche, and toasted notes carried by a vibrant citrus undertow. The finish is long and lingering, with persistent flavour and excellent drive.
A beautiful, outstanding Champagne displaying the depth and complexity of a fully mature vintage Krug at its peak. The balance between richness and acidity is seamless, and the wine's vitality suggests it will hold at this level for some time yet, though there is no reason to delay further. 94–95 points.
