No wines shown on the label, this seems Gamay-like to me. Ripe red cherry start-to-finish with red cherry candy and a bit of grip, but mostly plump and well balanced. Turns out to be approximately 40% Cab Franc, 30% each Pinot Noir and Gamay. Fun wine produced in collaboration with Chris Bianco (Pizzeria Bianco) in a attempt to present something Sangiovese-like, but without any Sangiovese.
In horizontal flight. Bright red fruit on nose and palate, faintly perfumed start, then elegant and bright textures, nearly crunchy. Very good length. Even consider this his expression of "Chambolle."
USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Eola - Amity Hills
In horizontal. Red cherry and berry throughout with a few dashes of five spice. Good+ weight, very good textures. Everything nicely balanced, lots here to enjoy now with more to come. Evan considers this his expression of "Vosne."
In horizontal. Floral with savory spice, also light and charming with an elegant core. Good+ finish and length. All red fruits, slightly plump for now. Even considers this his expression of "Volnay."
Crisp apple and lemon that also shows ripeness, faintly floral. Lean and bright with impressive length and a textural element almost reminiscent of Chablis. 1/2 each from Pearlstad and the Yamhill Valley Vineyard, blended specifically for this combination of bright and rich. Impressive.
USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Eola - Amity Hills
Again both ripe and lean orchard fruit aromas here with floral touches and already so much going on. More taut than ripe flavors with great minerally textures, and a long, finessed finish. Just a baby. Possibly better than 2021.
USA, Oregon, The Rocks District of Milton-Freewater
Spiced red and black cherry with meaty, spicy, and bright elements in balance. My third time tasting this wine, and each time it seemed so Gonon-like even though Evan referenced Cornas several times in his intro, and in fact, Gonon is his model here. Very successfully, I must add.
2025 Martin Woods Cabernet Franc Rosé Eola Springs Vineyard 87 Points
USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley
Faintly floral start with a lighter style than the 2024, then taut and almost tart on the finish, maybe will soften in bottle.
