  • 2019 Domaine Vincey Champagne Grand Cru Oger 93 Points

    France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru

    Bland de Blancs. 0g of dosage, 12 months in oak and ~3 years on lees. Bready yeasty nose with citrus. Chalky texture and breadth and drive. More apple and lemon as the wine warmed and got more air. Slight bitter edge.

  • 2019 Domaine Vincey Champagne Grand Cru Le Mesnil sur Oger 95 Points

    Bland de Blancs. 0g of dosage, 12 months in oak and ~3 years on lees.

    Following severe frosts, the Mesnil sur Oger was a blend of two Grand Cru lieu dits ('Chemins des Châlons' and 'Auge') which are usually bottled separately and released under each vineyard name.

    Musky floral nose. More texture and breadth than the Oger next to it. I would have guessed Blanc de Noirs, or at least a fair chunk of Meunier had I not known what the wine was. The florals kept developing in the glass with more citrus then coming out and a nice tannic grip to finish. Another great showing of this wine and a step or two up on the Oger.

  • 2019 Domaine Odoul-Coquard Chambolle-Musigny Les Fremières 88 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny

    Tasted blind. Cherry and pooey nose. The wine was very dense, compact with a lot of oak. Very ripe wine and moving into dry red territory. Tough drinking.

  • 2019 Dominique Laurent Volnay 1er Cru Les Brouillards Vieilles Vignes 93 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru

    Tasted blind. Redcurrant and blackcurrant nose. Deep rich nose and palate. Brighter than the 19 Odoul-Coquard next to it. Tangy, firm tannins, sweet fruit. Brouillards is a more 'masculine' vineyard so you could be forgiven for thinking this was from north of Beaune.

  • 2019 Jean-Pierre Maldant Corton-Maréchaudes 92 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru

    Tasted blind. Baking spices and spicy on the nose. Dark deep and rich with a distinctive character of Manuka honey. It opened up nicely with spicy and flowing texture. Red fruits and red currants. Unfortunately it fell a little short on the finish otherwise it would have gotten another point or two. 92

  • 2019 Maison Albert Bichot Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Rouges du Dessus 95 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru

    Tasted blind. From higher up on the hill above Echezeaux. Dark cherry ripe nose with orange rind. The palate was more transparent, expressive and pretty but with concentrated fruit. I've had mixed experiences with Bichot but really enjoyed it.

  • 2019 Alain Hudelot-Noëllat Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Suchots 94 Points

    Tasted blind. Dark and impenetrable to look at. I’d describe it similarly to the movie “Everything Everywhere All at Once” due to it being full, ripe, sweet, structured, soft, balanced, and with very concentrated red berries all at the same time. I would looove to see it in 20-30 years. 94+

    Tasted blind. Looked a bit flat and clunky to start with but became lovely as it opened in the glass, with a beautiful nose of cherry and brown sugar and more and more sinewy red fruits coming out with time.

  • 1963 Cockburn Porto Vintage 95 Points

    Portugal, Douro, Porto

    Tasted blind. The colour is browning with rose tinges. Lots of almond essence on the nose. The palate was pure and intense rose water, with a nice tartness, and the spirit had integrated well. Very grapes and lovely tartness. I could sip on this all night. Approaching its ethereal stage but not impatient to be drunk. 95
