Pale salmon. Juicy mineral nose. Savoury notes are unusual and really attractive. Bright and lean palate with very impressive concentration. Lovely fruity finish. I love the style of this sub 12% rose.
First taste of this wine and it did not disappoint. Melony nose, slightly reminiscent of aromatic varietals. Quite opulent on the palate - gorgeous texture, satin acids, smooth finish. While this is totally approachable right now (and delicious), this has the stuffing to develop into something quite interesting in the next 5 years, or perhaps even longer.
Classic California SB fruit expression. Neutral oak elevage adds beautiful texture to this wine without a massively oaky overlay. Fabulous balance. Refined and nuanced.
At 13%, this was the richest of the three 2024 Syrahs opened at the Arnot Roberts open day. Sharing the uncommon purity that A-R brings out of these Sonoma Coast terroirs, I really appreciated the added weight, which makes this the most approachable for drinking right now. The weight also brings this closer in style to Northern Rhone Syrahs, with its vibrant black pepper and crushed raspberry personality. Fabulous elevage that simply lets the fruit and the site speak for itself.
Clearly the lightest, and most austere of the three Syrahs opened at the Arnot Roberts open day. Very low alcohol brings a sense of refreshment to the palate, and the floral notes of this wine are stunning. Bright and tannic palate that absolutely requires cellaring at the moment. While of course this wine can be drunk now, I do see considerable upward potential in this. The purity is stunning, and this (and of course the Que Syrah Vineyard, are incredibly pure and profound expressions of place. 94+++
The most complex and refined of the three great Syrahs opened for the Arnot Roberts open day. The nose is world class in its blackbeeey liqueur intensity and purity. The ripeness is so refined and the black pepper notes frame a riviting bouquet. Purity echos on the palate, which is considerably more intense than the other two wines. All three are gorgeous, but the Wye Syrah has an extra dimension, in my view. Like the Clary, this is do very tannic, but the added weight refinement of the midpalate give this wine a less bright texture. Just a baby and will clearly develop with cellaring.
Really impressive. Un-evolved currently and a poster child for the varietal purity of Cabernet. Classic crushed leaf, tight currants, and earth. Subtle oak - this is all about purity of fruit. Tight, focused, and intense palate that has huge grip and length. Everything is in place for a great bottle of wine to emerge in 15-20 years, and I have no doubt this will develop and delight for decades. Bordeaux proportions, with a cool climate personality that absolutely stresses the purity of its fruit. 94+++
Richer and slightly more plush personality than the Montecillo Vineyard. As with all their wines, this is a vivid representation of place. Slightly more expressive at this stage, but clearly wants some more age !
Easily the pick of three great 2023s - the Fellom Ranch has that extra dimension and hint of sur maturite (that never overwhelms) that elevate the fruit to something incredibly refined. Approachable, but this is begging for at least a decade in bottle before cracking it Roth a great meal.
Great to have this next to the new release 2023 to see the effects of modest bottle age on this wine. While still very young, the wine has developed a beautifully polished personality, while still retaining a multi dimensional, but still primary fruit expression. I would hold this longer before opening it, maybe try at age 25 to assess?
