The genesis of this dinner was to finish off a bottle of leftover Anglore ('20,'21,'22) that Tim mixed to make up a full bottle at the Anglore vertical a month ago. Surprisingly the wine was still in tip-top shape and showed even better than most bottles from the previous dinner, with a wild and ethereal nature.
For dinner, Barry cooked up a Japanese themed feast for 14 people, really appreciate his and his wife's efforts to prepare the meal as it isn't easy to cook for such a large group.
NV Domaine Vincey Champagne Grand Cru Interlude No 4 93 Points
France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru
2965 bottles produced. 2022 base. 100% Chardonnay, zero dosage, disgorged May 2025. Pure, driven red fruit with delicate mousse, reminded me of Collin but Vincey made sense. Haven't had a bad bottle from this producer.

2023 Vineyard 28 Pignoletto Sparkling Wildwater 92 Points
Australia, Western Australia, South West Australia, Geographe
Wow a very convincing new-world sparkling that was very house-style champagne, agreed with a friend who guessed Arras. More powerful and sweeter compared to the Vincey but enjoyable. An interesting find.

NV Kumeu River Crémant Rosé 90 Points
New Zealand, North Island, Auckland, Kumeu
My contribution after carrying it back from NZ. Disgorged May 2025, 5g/l dosage. Not as expressive as the bottle I tasted at the domaine but showed a similar strawberries and cream profile. Made in a fruit-forward way for early consumption.

2022 Fryer's Cove Sauvignon Blanc Reserve Hollebaksstrandfontien 70 Points
South Africa, Olifants River, Bamboes Bay
Not sure what was going on but reductive to the point of being faulty with burnt rubber, and so green that I agreed with someone who said that this might be mistaken for a Cab Franc without looking at the colour.

2025 Fryer's Cove Chenin Blanc 86 Points
South Africa, Western Cape
Smelled and tasted like a Sauvignon Blanc with tropical grapefruit notes but at least this was drinkable unlike the SB.

2017 Mount Mary Triolet 92 Points
Australia, Victoria, Port Phillip, Yarra Valley
67% Sauvignon Blanc, 23% Semillon, 10% Muscadelle. I didn't get as much SB notes compared to the Chenin, probably because of the elevage in barrel (5% new) and the more citrus fruit profile. An elegant and well-balanced wine that was still remarkably fresh, all the wines from this producer have been consistently great and age superbly.

2022 Penfolds Chardonnay Yattarna Bin 144 90 Points
Australia, South Australia
Reductive with some butter popcorn on the nose, guessed as an Australian Chardonnay mimicking Burgundy with high acidity despite the slightly sweet nature. Overmade for my liking.

2023 Sadie Family Chenin Blanc Skurfberg 92 Points
South Africa, Olifants River, Citrusdal
As usual with this producer's whites, broad frame with the oak use but very balanced with good acidity and attractive melon fruit. Still very young though.

2014 Guffens-Heynen Mâcon-Pierreclos Tri de Chavigne 93 Points
France, Burgundy, Mâconnais, Mâcon-Pierreclos
Nailed the maker immediately but this was so fresh that I guessed 2022. Quite similar to the Yattarna on the nose but palate was much more balanced. Clean and pure citrus fruit that became more expressive, gained structure without losing freshness. My favourite white of the night.

2024 Tinnyu Chardonnay Coma 90 Points
China, Yunnan
From the villages of Xi-Da (2800m) and A-Dong (2600m) in Shangri-La, Yunnan. Aged in 70% stainless steel, 30% French 225l barrels (50% new, 50% one year old) for 8 months with weekly battonage for the first few weeks. Started with a classic profile of citrus fruit and high acidity but got more tropical and wilder with air to show jackfruit and durian notes. An atypical Chardonnay that was interesting to try but became too loose with air for my liking.

2022 Tsuno Wine Syrah Private Reserve Makiuchi 92 Points
Japan, Kyushu, Miyazaki
Wow possibly the prettiest Syrah that I've come across. Initially thought this was a Cab Sauv because there was some greenness; palate was full and elegant with ripe cherry fruit. Gentle but grippy tannins. Reminded me of Beau Paysage in terms of style. Very impressed.

2015 Sadie Family Treinspoor 92 Points
South Africa, Coastal Region, Swartland, Malmesbury
Brought for a friend. Sweet dark fruit with blackberry and plum notes, showing both structure and elegance. Polished with a sauvage character, well integrated at 11 years of age. Agree with a previous note that this was unconventional but interesting in a positive way.

2022 Occidental Pinot Noir Freestone-Occidental 91 Points
USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast
My extra. Much more restrained and better balanced than the earlier bottle which I think was too candied because it was served too warm. Wild stemmy notes on the nose with a little brett, attractive dark red fruit in line with the Cuvée Catherine that I enjoyed. Interestingly some had this down as a Grenache when blinded.

2003 Torbreck RunRig 78 Points
Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley
An Australian ooze-monster which still has not shed its baby fat. Bold and high in alcohol, dominated by liquorice and mocha notes. Couldn't drink more than a sip of this.

2018 Wine Access Cabernet Sauvignon Radio Silence 91 Points
USA, California, Napa Valley
Supposedly from Harlan and micro-oxygenated to make the wine more approachable. Expected to hate this but surprisingly this was quite drinkable and not overdone, agree with previous notes that this could pass off as a late '00s Bordeaux.
