Made with 48% Chardonnay, 43% Pinot Noir and 9% Pinot Meunier, aged on the lees for six years, 12% ABV. Sandy loam over green sand on gravel and flint. Very crisp and zippy, zesty citrus and baked apple, nice hint of toast, earthier and spicier than wines from limestone terroir, acidity (TA 9.2 gr/l) balanced by a welcome hint of residual sugar (RS 6.5 gr/l), very good resonance and length. Truly English in style, could never be confused for Champagne.
Made with 100% Chardonnay from Mount Harry, Coldharbour and Storrington Priory vineyards. A multi-vintage Solera, this is 65% from the 2023 vintage, 20% from 2024 and 15% from 2022. Almost fluorescent green tinged white gold; discreet nose opens up with oxygen; lean and taut palate, lithe (12% ABV) but muscular, super salty, firm acidity, zesty citrus with a hint of cream, huge minerally energy; precise finish with very good persistence. Excellent, very distinctive.
Reminds me strongly of Viña Bosconia Reserva in a ripe vintage, with its leathery, long-matured aromas, but there is also something claret-like about it, with its flavours of cherries and blackcurrants - the balance shifts towards Bordeaux with oxygen. The palate is firmly structured, relatively slender (for its 14% ABV), harmonious and energetic, with firm acidity and papery tannins, creamy texture; finishes with a hint of cocoa and a good charge of fruit, very good length. Really very good, but lacks elegance for a higher score. Perfect with (special of the day) Rubia Gallega from Xose Portas (sirloin) from six year old cows, 60 days dry aged.
