Flight 1 (2 Notes)

  • 2015 Moët & Chandon Champagne Grand Vintage 92 Points

    France, Champagne

Tasted blind. Bready nose and lemon. The palate is bright but intense to begin with. Nice chalky texture. A strange bitterness distracts. As the wine warms and gets more air, it turn nutty and shows rich development. Broad palate. Rich and chunky. This was served side by side with a 2015 Dom Perignon to do a domaine comparison - the Dom was much lighter, airier and fresher. 92.

  • 2015 Dom Pérignon Champagne 95 Points

    France, Champagne

Tasted blind. I got red fruits on the nose on first pour. Broad texture across the palate. Much fresher than the 2015 Moet next to it. Floral, expressive, light, tangy. Really nice champagne. 95

France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru

Tasted blind. Lemon nose. Sweet lemon. Plush ripe lemon. Finishes a bit short. Clean and fresh but a little dull. This had the quintessential character of 1er Chablis from a warm year. 91.

  • 2023 Blain-Gagnard Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Caillerets 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru

Tasted blind. Deeper, richer grapefruit nose. Rich palate, oily, concentrated. Grapefruit and mouth puckering acidity and texture. Rich, layered, full bodied. Some oak influence. Rich luscious fruit. I guessed Meursault for this. 93.

  • 2023 Philippe Colin Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Chenevottes 94 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru

Tasted blind. Very closed on the nose when first poured. Intense. Various citrus fruits and mandarin. The wine spreads in all directions as it hits the tongue. Bright lifted and elegant. This tasted of Chassagne to me and was my favourite of the bracket. 94.

  • 2023 Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Caillerets 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru

Tasted blind. Reductive. Very lively and textured on the palate. Lots of lees. Lifted bright and floral. Mandarin. Lots of oak spice which was a bit much as the wine warmed and got more air. The fruit was beautiful but suffered from winemaking. 93.

  • 2023 Domaine Berthaut-Gerbet Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Plantes 94 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru

Tasted blind. Mid red translucent colour. Bright spicy expressive nose. Small spicy red berries. Pose petal and Turkish Delight. Lots of stems. Texture from the whole bunch. Light tannins. The wine as lovely but went slightly dumb in the glass with the stems overpowering the fruit somewhat. Really enjoyed it though and look forward to seeing how it ages. 94+

  • 2023 Domaine Hudelot-Baillet Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Cras 92 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru

Tasted blind. Darker and more extracted colour. Spicy red fruit on the nose. Sweeter, darker, fuller but jubey red fruits also. Layers. A hit of light tannin. A little clunky next to 3 such beautiful Chambolles. The Domaine style is ripe and extractive and that's what you get here. 92-93

  • 2023 Domaine Ghislaine Barthod Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Fuées 96 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru

Tasted blind. Mid translucent colour. A bit muted on the nose on opening. Spicy and lifted. Whole bunch. The most intense wine of the bracket. Red and dark red spicy berries. As the wine sat in the glass, more underlying structure came out and some tannins. 95
Plus 1 day: Wow - this has come along in leaps and bounds. Nose of spicy dark red berries. So many spices, rose petal, tangy and spicy. The wine gets lighter and more floral as it sits in the glass. 96+
