Continuing on after the success of the 2015 event this was the first regrouping to try 2026 Brunello 10 years on. Focus on annata wines. Served singled blinded (with the Stella Rosso being a ringer)

  • 2016 Canalicchio di Sopra Brunello di Montalcino 93 Points

    Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino

    Darker and more sultry on the nose than wine 1. There is some cherry tobacco and plum but all clean. Similar on the palate with clean dark cherry. Very good movement from the attack to finish. A little dark and hot but also very convincing. #5 Of the night.

  • 2016 Baricci Brunello di Montalcino 94 Points

    Nice herbaceous cherry nose with a nice earthy / pretrichor element. Real sense of place. I’m back there in a garden in Montalcino after a little downpour. Good intensity to the palate. Very sapid lip smacking. Young and with some coiled energy that will unfurl in time but bloody good now. #3 if the night

    Quite clean sweet cherry with a just a hint of strade bianche dust and a good lick of balsamic.
    Quite generous fruit on the attack. This was good and very classic. #4 of the night

  • 2016 Tenuta le Potazzine Brunello di Montalcino 93 Points

    A little shyer on the nose. Quite clean sweet cherry, tomato lead and a perhaps a little perceivable alcohol.
    Easier going on the palate with more convincing concentrated primary fruit with good length. Convincing but if I was being really harsh I might question if a touch too much alcohol. Still very good

  • 2016 Fattoria Poggio di Sotto Brunello di Montalcino 95 Points

    Lovely nose. We are back more in crystalline red cherry but there in interesting depth here, some pomegranate and redcurrant. There are depths to the fruit here. Very primary on the palate too with very primary sapid fruit. Good persistency. Like this - it had an ethereal brightness to it. #1 of the night for me
