Flight 1 (5 Notes)

  • 2018 By Farr Chardonnay Côte Vineyard 93 Points

    Australia, Victoria, Port Phillip, Geelong

Young, bright and intense bouquet with pineapples, starfruit, nashi pear and cream. Plenty of verve, drive and tension through the palate, feels like a very intellectual wine.

  • 2017 Domaine / Maison Vincent Girardin Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Pucelles 89 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru

Round and ripe bouquet with lychee, almond, lemon curd. Palate is lively, focused, punchy and weight with oak traces but feeling a little clunky.

  • 2015 Jean-Philippe Fichet Meursault Les Chevalières 92 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault

Reductive and tropical bouquet showing plenty of verve, accompanied with limestone, lemon rind, sudachi, white pears and jasmine flowers. Palate is vibrant, focused and full of tension, some use of oak holding this together quite nicely.

  • 2017 Antonin Guyon Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Pucelles 90 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru

Reductive bouquet with pineapples, starfruit, peanut skin and green mango. Palate reveals some age, nuttiness but good acid profile with bitter grapefruit peel on the back palate - felt a little disjointed to be frank and just a bit lacking.

Stunning expression! Bouquet filled with Incense, cherries, juniper berries and sandalwood. Palate has poise, structure, good intensity and sandalwood. Tannins a little grainy, but great finesse and balance

  • 2009 Lucien Le Moine Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Cazetiers 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru

Surprised to find out this was 2009. Fruit driven bouquet with purity of fruit, berries, violets, cedar and hoisin. Palate very silky and sensual good balance and finesse - was indeed surprised this was LLM when revealed!

  • 2017 Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier Chambolle-Musigny 94 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny

Intensely aromatic bouquet with Iron, smoke, violets, red plums, wild cherries. Palate is beautiful and nicely layered. Softer and less in your face than the other wines but very quietly impresses.

  • 2005 Domaine Michel Lafarge Bourgogne 90 Points

    France, Burgundy, Bourgogne

Soft bouquet showing red plums, mulberries, violets, sandalwood and smoke. Tannins quite grippy and fruit is a bit austere. Palate is a lot softer but finish almost disappears as soon as it leaves the palate.

  • 2008 Domaine G. Roumier / Christophe Roumier Chambolle-Musigny 94 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny

Aromatic and regal bouquet showing off wild berries, orange peel, savoury meat, bayberries. Palate has silky tones and elegance with good concentration and deep intensity. Underlying still quite powerful and maintaining superb structure and power while also showing clarity.

  • 2014 Domaine Bruno Clair Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Cazetiers 90 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru

Violets, dark plums, lavender, violets. Palate has some depth and concentration but finishes a little linear and simplistic. A little too grippy still for my preference, not sure of the upside here.
