    New Zealand, North Island, Wairarapa, Martinborough

    20% oak, bottled Sep 2024
    The wine shows high intensity, a bit of tropical fruit, peach, ripe and forward, pear drops, fresh, it shows a bit of reduction too.
    In the palate, the wine shows minerality, tropical fruit, med acidity, not showing much, again a bit tight for a NZ SB, linear, vertical, med body, med finish

  • 2024 Escarpment Chardonnay

    New Zealand, North Island, Wairarapa, Martinborough

    20% new oak, partial MLF to keep the freshness
    The wine shows med intensity, ripe melon/stone fruit, nutty, fine walnut frame, there are a few yogurt notes, a bit flinty too
    In the palate, the wine shows far more oak than the nose, walnut, toast, stone fruit, a few bitter notes from the oak (charcoal-like), mineral, acidity, green fruit, long persistent finish
    (served in a huge red wine glass)

  • 2023 Escarpment Pinot Noir Noir

    New Zealand, North Island, Wairarapa, Martinborough

    4 weeks on skin, open top fermenter, 10% whole bunch, large oak format, sampled from a huge glass
    The wine shows freshness, red cherry notes, raspberry, shows some spice notes, sweet biscuit notes, walnut.
    In the palate, the wine follows the stye, red cherry, a bit savoury, med acidity, thin body, low in tannins, crispy, med finish

  • 2024 Torbreck Cuvée Juveniles Blanc

    Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley

    25% Roussanne, 24% Marsanne, 24% Grenache blanc, 20% Clairette, 7% Viognier, Hillside Vineyard established 1850 but all the grapes come fromb young vines (Viognier 1994). Viognier is barrel fermented

    The wine shows herbal notes, citrus, pear, a few peach notes, some floral notes.
    In the palate, the wine shows texture, density, crunchy, grapefruit, pear, green apple, med to high acidity, long finish. Raw almond notes, there is a saline/sea breeze note here.

  • 2023 Torbreck Woodcutter's Shiraz

    Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley

    Comes from younger vines that themselves came from cuttings of really old vines, some declassified grapes too. Sampled from a big Bordeaux glass. 15.0% alc

    The wine shows high intensity in the nose.
    The wine shows ripe dark cherry/berry fruit, floral notes, violets, there is a bit of warmth here, fruit in alcohol
    In the palate, the wine follows the style, ripe dark berry notes, a bit of warmth, not heavy, there is a lively fresh/mineral character too, med body, juicy, a few candied notes, med to long finish

  • 2022 Torbreck The Steading

    Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley

    50% Grenache 31% Shiraz 19% Mataro, 4500lt foudres, 15.0% alc
    The wine shows high intensity in the nose, very dense, savoury, concentrated. The wine shows warmth, fruit in alcohol but not really hot. There is a soy sauce element here.
    In the palate, the wine shows a very fruit forward note, dark berry notes, inky texture, fin oak frame holding everything together but not overly showing. The wine shows tannins but altogether very silky and juicy, long finish
