Selosse and Fallon dinner

Introduction
A friend kindly invited me to a Selosse and Fallon dinner organised by Vinum and it was great to catch up with Matthew. Consistent with my only previous experience of Fallon, I can understand why people say that he (and Brigitte) are the only ones truly making Champagne in the same vein. All the wines showed tremendous drive and electricity, and developed a singular depth with time in the glass. Finally based on the Guillaume Selosse wines I have tasted, I am very excited to see how he will take the domaine forward in the years to come.
NV Michel Fallon Champagne Grand Cru Le Sentier Levraux Blanc de Blancs 95 Points

No information on the back label. Initially more oxidative on the nose than on the palate which was quite strict, but quickly developed the Selosse-inspired golden colour and slightly honeyed notes. Interestingly much more reminiscent of Selosse than the pair of Ozannes that came later despite the same winemaking techniques which Matthew partially attributed to the 105 year old vines. Layered and complex, one of my favourites of the tasting.

NV Michel Fallon Champagne Grand Cru Brigitte Fallon Blanc de Blancs Millésimé 94 Points

Understand that the difference between Brigitte and Michel Fallon labellings is that the former is negoce. 2013 base with 42% solera reserve from 2002 to 2014. Disgorged Oct 2021. An effortlessly elegant, pristine nose of crisp apple fruit, palate followed through with precise citrus fruit. Very fresh for its age and noticeably less oxidative than the Le Sentier Levraux that came before. A very 2013 BdB which is one of my favourite vintages for its acidity and balance.

NV Michel Fallon Champagne Grand Cru Ozanne Blanc de Blancs 93 Points

Tasted the 2024 and 2025 disgorged bottles side by side and they were almost identical to me so just writing one note. Driven and powerful with a distinct saline streak, very pleasurable for my tastes in a more orthodox BdB manner but lacked the depth of the other wines in the line-up.

Disgorged 23 Nov 2016, AI said the base vintage should be 2008–2010. Prior to tasting this I said that I am usually not such a big fan of Selosse's more oxidative cuvées, and initially this proved my first instincts right as it was slightly tired and woolly. Thankfully it gained freshness and acidity with time in the glass but ultimately this was a wine that I respected more than I enjoyed. As Matthew said this was oxidative but not oxidised, but on the precipice for me as I would have guessed '90s if blinded.

NV Guillaume Selosse Champagne Largillier Extra Brut 96 Points

100% Pinot Noir farmed by Coessens. Base 2015, disgorged 15 Oct 2020. Immediately said this was on fire and when I checked my note from last year I used exactly the same descriptor. The energy and lift was immediately striking, and the acidity piercing despite being a BdN and apparently harvested late. Penetrative and layered red fruit, a very complete wine. My clear WOTN along with a couple of others.

NV Jacques Selosse Champagne Brut Rosé 92 Points

Disgorged 16 Nov 2018. Thought this was quite primary and energetic with notes of fresh strawberries and orange peel and high acidity. Quite simple compared to the other wines, unfortunately slightly overshadowed by the rest of the line-up.
