  • 2004 Domaine du Mas Blanc (Docteur Parcé) Collioure Clos du Moulin

    France, Languedoc Roussillon, Roussillon, Collioure

    Dark red. Low on the expressiveness scale, showing just a woody profile at first. After four days, this was just a little more forthcoming, with deep-registering woody and smoky tones more so than notes. Gentle-seeming at first, this has some serious tannins on the back end that thankfully don't stick out the way that wood tannins tend to do.

  • 2003 Domaine Beauthorey Pic Saint-Loup Danse des Ceps

    France, Languedoc Roussillon, Languedoc, Pic Saint-Loup

    Fairly dark purple. An oak dressing that's actually nice applied to a very kirschey, very grenache profile lightened by a bit spice. Lush and sweet but with decent tannin. This is just delicious and wholly attractive - score! Maintained its tastiness for several more days.

  • 2004 Domaine de l'Hortus Pic Saint-Loup Grande Cuvée

    France, Languedoc Roussillon, Languedoc, Pic Saint-Loup

    Medium garnet. Bright, bright spiced fruit up front, then developing an incredibly aromatic profile somewhat dominated by dill but retaining excellent ripeness at the same time. Almost nebbiolo-esque impression in the mouth, elegantly expressing its considerable power. Held up with absolutely no problems for four days. Superb Pic St. Loup.

  • 1995 Domaine St. Martin de la Garrigue Rouge

    France, Languedoc Roussillon, Vin de Pays d'Oc

    Very dark garnet. Good ripe stink of cinnamon, earth, and leather. Still bright and persistent, with good structure but some hollowness on the finish. Heck of a showing at this stage in its life cycle, though.

  • 2005 Mas Carlot Costières-de-Nîmes Les Enfants Terribles

    France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Costières-de-Nîmes

    Very dark red. Deep and moderately expressive, with blackberry, light woodsmoke, and baking spice. Sweet and juicy, dense but vibrant. One of the more progressively styled wines here, but a solid hit down the middle.

  • 2003 Hecht & Bannier Côtes du Roussillon Villages

    Dark red. All warmth and liqueurlike fruit. Cooled off on subsequent days but never really developed into the attractive whole that David S. described.
