Time to look at a vertical of Senejac going back to the first case that I bought En Primeur back in 2004

Lots to like here (for me). I do rather love Senejac as my slightly richer midweek claret. Nom nom nom.
2004 Château Sénéjac
France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Haut-Médoc
From Coravin. Brambles, a little plum, savoury underpin, touches of forest floor; sous bois, a little leather, pyrazine - both of the latter grow with time accompanied by cigar box notes. Flavours as per the nose on the palate; fruit; tertiary notes. Tannins are grippy but finely textured and powdery, All travels medium plus length joined by a tiny touch of astringency. Nice.

2009 Château Sénéjac
France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Haut-Médoc
From Coravin. Ripe blackcurrant fruit lozenge, black liquorice, plenty of sweet oak spice, touch of poached sweet plum, a little savoury spice in the background - pretty nose. With time, and agitation, a smoky note starts showing as well as a slightly porty quality whilst sill retaining the prettiness. In the mouth it's ripe, rich and concentrated - plenty of fruit power here, tannins join the party but are integrated, though drying, tight and coarse flour textured, broad, long. Big but balanced, pretty good. On the better 2009's i've tried.

2010 Château Sénéjac

From Coravin. Medium minus intensity aromas of blackcurrant, brambles, cedar, sweet spice, a little savoury meaty note here in the background. It's a touch closed and reticent but, with time, the fruit grows and becomes riper and more baked. Having said that on the palate it's surprisingly bitter and foursquare, lacks fruit generosity, tannins are drying and grippy, slightly coarse and in charge, closing down the palate. Not a good showing.

2012 Château Sénéjac

From Coravin. Cream, non delineated black fruits, a touch of vanilla, almost an odd candy floss/creaming soda note, almost meal (?), with time fruit begins to delineate to show blackcurrant, cherry, plum but still retaining those slightly candied notes. Juicy fresh and slightly dilute on the palate, wild black fruits have a crunchy quality, tannins are drying, finely textured but a green note closing down the palate a little, the muted fruit travels long on the finish with a little lactic creaminess. Hmmm.

2013 Château Sénéjac

From Coravin. Medium minus intensity aromas of red fruits, touch of pyrazine , something a little tough and stalky smelling as well as some lactic notes. The red fruit notes grow with time and are joined by some blood/iron aromas. Medium plus intensity acidity is juicy, it's quite lean, red hued fruits, silky tannins, green notes, quite herbaceous. It's better than my most recent experience of this wine but still not what I would call enjoyable.

2015 Château Sénéjac
France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Haut-Médoc
From Coravin. Biscuit, fruit tea, a little backing spice, muted black fruits and a tiny alcohol prickle, with time it becomes more plummy with a touch of violet. Medium plus intensity acidity, muted dark fruits, silky tannins are slightly drying, a little chocolate on the finish. Simple.

2016 Château Sénéjac

From Coravin. Rich, dark hued fruits are quite compote; plums; cherry; blackcurrant backed by sweet spice ,a little creamy note lends hints of crème du cassis. Pretty fruit driven nose that, with time, develops a more savoury oak derived woody underpin. Juicy, fleshy and balanced, those dark hued fruits, the creme du cassis note, ripe tannins are tacky, supportive, no intrusive alcohol warmth helps carry the whole long. Good.

2018 Château Sénéjac

From Coravin. Baked black fruits, touch of crushed rock/baked earth, I can feel the heat of the vintage on the nose, it develops some beef extract noes as well. . In the mouth it is baked, savoury, concentrated with liquorice joining the black fruit syrup, tight woody tannins are drying. Meh.
