Northern Rhone dinner in Paris

Introduction
Glad to have caught up with Laurent during a quick work trip to Paris, always very educational drinking with his friends. Had a northern Rhone theme and was interesting to have tried so many whites which I unexpectedly liked, but the WOTN unsurprisingly was the ‘01 Jamet Cote Brune.
2020 Roses de Jeanne / Cédric Bouchard Champagne Millésimé Blanc de Noirs Les Ursules 94 Points
France, Champagne
Almost rosé-like in colour. Guessed grower Pinot Noir or Meunier like most others at the table but once revealed as Pinot Noir I guessed it had to be Bouchard. Predominantly red fruit with an elegant texture and an acidic, saline spine. What I love about Bouchards is that it is always so gulpable yet complex.

2014 Marc Sorrel Hermitage Blanc Les Rocoules 93 Points

Quite pale in colour. Very Burgundian with some oak and reductive notes so I went for Vernay Coteau de Vernon but forgot about this. Clearly a northern Rhone with white jasmine and almond notes instead of citrus but excellent acidity. Impressive as usual from this producer.

2005 Domaine Jean-Louis Chave Hermitage Blanc 93 Points

Darker in colour and slightly oxidative with a bitterness that as Laurent correctly noted gives great Rhône whites their shape and complexity. Very serious and structured that made me guess early '00s Chave. Not my usual style but I found this to be very impressive.

1999 Bernard Faurie Hermitage Blanc Flawed

Very pale, similar in colour to the Sorrel that was 15 years younger (!). Great underlying material but unfortunately corked.

1999 M. Chapoutier Ermitage Blanc l'Ermite Flawed

Wow so dark brown in colour compared to the Faurie alongside. The power remained but little else but not a particularly interesting drink as this was definitely oxidised to me. RP 100 apparently..

2001 Domaine Jamet Côte-Rôtie Côte Brune 95 Points

My contribution, very similar to my previous experience. Nose was quintessential Jamet with wild smoky bacon so unsurprisingly someone managed to nail Jamet. Palate was complete and balanced, always love this producer for its consistency.

2003 Rene Rostaing Côte-Rôtie La Landonne 92 Points

An easy guess as Rostaing given the darker, more extracted style, but unlike my last experience this showed more restraint and cooler dark fruit so I guessed 2006. None of the '03 excess so very impressed.

1995 E. Guigal Côte-Rôtie La Turque 94 Points

I didn't have a chance to guess this but would have guessed a cooler vintage like '08 from a modern producer. Very youthful with the slight menthol note that I often get from the La Las. A more elegant rendition of La Turque (which I usually find too dark). Similar to the '93 La Landonne and La Mouline that I tried previously.
