Flight 1 (2 Notes)

  • 2005 Henri Boillot Corton-Charlemagne 89 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru

Boat loads of new French oak on the nose. Apple and lemon fruit on the palate with some cat pee. Possessing a deep minerality. Nice freshness and acidity. Seems a bit out of whack. Needs time for all the components to come together. Could eventually be an outstanding wine but wasn't showing very well today. 14% alcohol.

Flight 2 (7 Notes)

  • 1981 Château Ducru-Beaucaillou 89 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Saint-Julien

Nose of ripe plumbs. Tastes of blackberry, currant and earth. The fruit is quite mature and the tannins fully resolved. Well balanced with good freshness. Soft finish. I'm pleasantly surprised at ow well this wine has held up despite it's age and vintage. A delight to drink. 14% alcohol.

Brooding dark fruit nose that explodes from the glass. Blackberry, black cherry, currant, violets, earth and leather. Excellent balance. Medium bodied. Sweet, refined tannins. Incredible depth and complexity that seamlessly spans from the mid palate to the finish. A very special wine that has a long glorious life ahead of it. Regrettably my only bottle. 13% alcohol.

  • 2001 Château Pavie Decesse 90 Points

Wow, over half the notes on this wine are from fellow drunkards from Phoenix. There must have been a big sale on it at Costco. Dark fruit nose. Tastes of blackberry, blackcurrant, iron and earth. Full bodied with very firm tannins. Nice depth of fruit on the finish. Needs time to come around. 13.5% alcohol.

  • 2003 Château Rieussec 87 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes

I've never been really on board with this vintage of Rieussec. Juicy fruit nose. Tastes of honey, cherry, lemon and honeycomb. A bit cloying, needing more acidity which is undoubtably due to the heat of the vintage. Rich, full bodied finish. Very disjointed. Now if this was the 2001, I would definitely change my tune. 14% alcohol.
