Introduction

A subset of the STG got together for the August tasting at Roy's. The food was amazing and a perfect match for the evenings wines.

Flight 1 (1 Note)

Roy started us off with a wonderful Poke Tuna... Amazing

Flight 2 (2 Notes)

Next came, some great scalops with a mango chutney.

Flight 3 (2 Notes)

Roy then treated us to a big seafood salad with ingredients fresh from the local farmers marked/seafood marked...

Cat Pee, Grapefruit, hints of oak, nice acidity and long finish. I was a bit put off by the cat pee.

  • 2000 Domaine William Fèvre Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos 90 Points

France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru

Very interesting, I have not had many Chablis. Opened up with aromas of cookie dough, lemons and citrus. Great acidity, more lemon and citrus on the palate follow with blasts of minerality on the finish.

Flight 4 (2 Notes)

Finally desert, a wonderful blueberry/blackberry shortcake...I almost licked my plate clean. Roy also served a white port with this that did not get the greatest responses so I only smelled it and took no other notes.

AP 2576511-9 77 You gotta love old reislings. Diesel, Diesel, Diesel! dominated followed by peach and hints of green apple. Very enjoyable, but the diesel was a little overwhelming as it overshadowed the remaining fruit. Great acidic finish. It would have been interesting to see how this changed over a few hours.

  • 2003 Darting Forster Schnepfenflug Huxelrebe Beerenauslese 90 Points

    Germany, Pfalz

Nice, tropical nose that reminded me of a Hawaiian fruit salad. The palate was very sweet and a bit flabby but not bad for a 2003. The finish was long and smooth with a bit of spiciness.
