What a treat to enjoy a small number of great wines, good food and friends that I don't get to see near enough, all over a leisurely lunch. Jonathan sparked this little gathering, which started by meeting at WineBank, each of us grabbing a bottle and adjourning to Quattro. Mark was able to join us from the end of a long bike ride toward the end of our meal. All of our wines were good, but the '01 Vogue Bourgogne Blanc was the best one I've tried, and quite a joy to drink, as was the '95 Sassicaia. There is something to be said for lingering over just a few great wines instead of the massive and numerous flights we often crowd in to a dinner gathering.![]()
1999 Maison Leroy Montagny 1er Cru Blanc 92 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte Chalonnaise, Montagny 1er Cru
Medium dark and bright golden color; a touch of sulfur on the nose that blew off after 15 minutes, while the mineral, and earthy, pleasant oak nose stayed; somewhat concentrated, tangy, smoky citrus, tart lemon and preserved lemon palate; medium finish

2001 Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé Bourgogne Blanc 95 Points
France, Burgundy, Bourgogne Blanc
Very light yellow color; lovely floral, white flower, honeysuckle, "hue" (Vietnamese herb that's like a blend of fennel and basil), lime sherbet nose; gorgeous, refined, lusciousness, with a palate of light citrus and lime, perfect acidity; medium finish 95+ pts. (much better than the pre-moxed version I'd had a few months back)
