Simple and very primary, but really pleasant with the venison dish that I had. Soy and earth notes on the nose, followed by wood and then lots of sweet berries and cassis. Ripe, woody tannins marked the palate at first, along with more of the sweet cassis and dark berries. It was rather big with noticeable touches of alcohol, but there was nice clarity lent by some fresh acid. A touch of meat rounded the mid-palate off. Okay finish, with more dark fruit, some, some vanillin laced oak and a lingering buttery flavour.
This is Antinori's Hungarian venture. Very nice wine too. Deep Amber colour. Nose opened with some sourdough bread, nuts, a touch of earthiness, dried figs, soy, salted caramel and orange peel. Very rich and complex. Same too on the palate, which was syrupy and very botrytised, with dried figs, quince, orange peel, and lots of spice which just unfolded with time. Clean acid kept the wine bright and alive in spite of a real thick, caramelly sweetness. Nice finish with snappy orange peel and dried apricot flavours gripped the mouth along with lots of exotic spice. Masculine and almost muscular wine this, very nice and complex with lots of strength.
