Introduction
Friday wine tasting, featuring wines of Yakima Valley, Washington. I did not taste the 2005 Terra Blanca Late Harvest Chenin Blanc.
2006 Milbrandt Vineyards Pinot Gris Traditions 80 Points
USA, Washington, Columbia Valley
Very crisp, with almost no flavor until the finish of green apples and minerals. Interesting, but forgettable.

2003 Terra Blanca Merlot 90 Points

Earth, raspberry fruit, and some peppery chocolate make this wine quite a treat! Smooth tannins slightly dry the mouth on the finish.

2002 Terra Blanca Cabernet Sauvignon Red Mountain 90 Points

Very floral nose of violets and blueberries, following to the palate. Delicious, and nicely integrated fruit, acidity and tannins.

2002 Kiona Cabernet Sauvignon Washington 87 Points

Sweet strawberry fruit, with a touch of smoked meat. Tannic, but not too harsh. This seems like it could keep going for another 3-4 years.

Consistent with previous tasting note. Somewhat bitter on the finish, however, but that could be because it followed the sweeter Kiona Cab.

2002 Kiona Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 87 Points

I'm not sure how Kiona picked their "Reserve" wine for this vintage, but the "regular" bottling seemed about the same as this Reserve. Nothing special here. Nice nose of blackberries, with blackberry and a bit of blue fruit on the palate. Tannins on the finish are unimpressive. I like the regular Terra Blanca wine better.

2001 Terra Blanca Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 92 Points

Definitely the wine of the tasting for me. Nose and palate exploding with black fruits and flowers, and a touch of earthiness that makes me think of Bordeaux. Great structure, with big, but nicely integrated tannins.
