Grenache Dinner

I fell in love with the Saxum Rocket Block and thought that it was because it was a grenache wine. After this dinner, I now think that that specific bottle was just very special because these other variations of grenache were barely okay to me. I'm in a weird wine place right now, so I'm not saying never again to grenache or anything else, but I'm slightly frustrated not to be able to find anything that wows me these days. Heck, I'll skip wow, I'd happily settle for "that was really nice".

  Six hour decant, completely opaque. Lots of acetone. Long finish, not impressed. :(

• 2006 Herman Story Grenache

  6 hr decant. Not much fruit. alcohol was present. By the end of the night, a long finish, smooth but the alcohol was still present. I am still learning about grenache so can't say how this compares to most, but I was disappointed.

• 2005 Outpost Grenache

  USA, California, Napa Valley, Howell Mountain

  Cloudy but translucent, dark, dark burgundy. Thin in fruit, calamine. I got pepper, but not as much as the others did.
