    France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Vouvray

    Seemed a tiny bit corky, but not obtrusively so. Dusty notes of white flowers and lychee. Fruity on the palate.

  • 2006 Jakoby-Mathy Kinheimer Rosenberg Riesling Kabinett 88 Points

    Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer

    Fresh and linear notes of lemon-lime, stone fruits, and minerals. Nice. 88-89 points.

  • 2007 L'Aventure Roussanne Estate 85 Points

    USA, California, Central Coast, Paso Robles

    The 15% Viognier in this wine tilts it too far away from Roussanne, in my opinion. Notes of honeycomb, apricots, peaches, and white flowers. Fat on the palate without the counterbalancing acidity. One wonders how a wine of this ilk would age, but an argument could certainly made for letting it sit in the cellar for a few years, if only to allow the opulent fruit to subside. The lack of acidity, however, does bother me. 85-86 points.

    Brimming with red fruits such as red currants and cranberries, along with shadings of cedar, this wine was the most polished and elegant of the Masyczek wines. Drinking really well now, but it should continue to improve over the next 5 years or so.

  • 2002 Rocca Family Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon 91 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley, Yountville

    Rich yet balanced with notes of cassis, cedar, sweet tobacco, and dried herbs. For my tastes, this wine is just starting to enter its ideal drinking window right now, with a 70/30 ratio of primary and secondary characteristics -- just enough to give interest and complexity to the wine, but not so much as to take away from the primary fruit. 91-92 points.

  • 2004 Rocca Family Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon 92 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley, Yountville

    Rich and dense with notes of cassis, plum, dark chocolate, and a hint of sweet tobacco. Needed more decanting on this night, but still an excellent wine.

  • 2004 Corra Cabernet Sauvignon 94 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley

    Notes of baked bread, cassis, mocha latte, red clay, crushed rocks, and sweet tobacco. Rich and mouthfilling and creamy on the palate. My notes say "Everything you want in a new world Cab." I think that pretty much says it all. My WOTN. 94-95 points.

  • 2005 Keever Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon 90 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley

    Ripe yet elegant, this is a Cabernet that is more on the red fruit side of the spectrum. Notes of red currants, cherries, Red Vines, crushed minerals, and brown spices. The acidity seems a bit strong, but this is a very nice wine nonetheless.
