  • 2004 Scarborough Wine Co Chardonnay Blue Label 90 Points

    Australia, New South Wales, Hunter Valley

    Lots of fruit showing through on the nose. Obviously young characteristics showing through with light and well integrated oak. Will grow into a loverly wine in the medium term. Drink now to 2006/2007.

Flight 2 - White bracket (4 Notes)

  • 2001 Reichsgraf von Kesselstatt Wiltinger Riesling trocken 87 Points

    Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer

    Super clear to almost white hue's with an excellent shine. Pong on the nose immediatly suggests old-world. Slightly spritzy on the palette with lime, kero and mineral flavours and a steely length. Very upfront, would need to be paired with food to really enjoy. Might mellow out abit in a few years, it has the acid to last - approx 2008. Riper and bigger in style than a new-world Riesling.

  • 2002 Guerrieri Rizzardi Soave Classico 85 Points

    Italy, Veneto, Soave Classico

    Floral/Herbacious nose. Clear to golden shine. Mostly secondary characteristics showing through with the fruit muted. Full mouth feel with a medium acid base. Almost Sauv Blanc style characters with minerally flavours coming through. More of a food wine. Drink now.

  • 2003 Blain-Gagnard Puligny-Montrachet 89 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet

    Pale to full golden hue's. Oak very evident on the nose and follows through into the palette. Not over done though, does have some class about it. Well integrated. New world style, perhaps showing abit simple at this stage. Palette showing apricots and resin. Apparently a very hot vintage which lead to riper fruit and hence the balancing oak was stepped up. Drink now.

  • 2002 Blain-Gagnard Puligny-Montrachet 90 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet

    Showing very different to the 2003. Cooler year led to not as much oak being required. Duller gold hue's with a obvious old-world pong on the nose. Palette starts with spice and lemon with small levels of oak evident to balance out the fruit. Good length, perhaps abit volatile still. Big chardonnay style with apricots and alcohol heat. Might come around in a couple of years, give it to 2007.

Flight 3 - Red bracket (5 Notes)

  • 2002 Guerrieri Rizzardi Munus 87 Points

    Italy, Veneto, Veronese IGT

    Light and spicy Pinot style nose. Good tannin structure and a little-bit spritzy on the palette. Short length with predominantly ripe raspberry fruit. Clean style with oak impressions. Tad unbalanced. Drink now. Very much a savoury style wine, match well with savoury foods.

  • 2003 Meerea Park Shiraz Terracotta 90 Points

    Australia, New South Wales, Hunter Valley

    Lots of red berries on the nose. Dark purple hues. Super dry. Not alot of fruit showing through, mostly sweet, ripe apricots. Good structure though and balanced well. Showing more earthy secondary characteristics. Good example of a Hunter Shiraz. Obviously abit of Viognier blended in at some stage.

  • 2003 Meerea Park Shiraz Alexander Munro 90 Points

    Australia, New South Wales, Hunter Valley

    Red berries and a meaty nose. Dark purple hues. Sweet fruit with a medium tanning structure. Good length with a lingering sweetness and a touch of bitterness. More of a food wine in it's structure with a huge body that would suit a thick steak. Smoothed out with abit of air.

  • 2000 Mount Pleasant Wines Shiraz Rosehill 91 Points

    Australia, New South Wales, Hunter Valley, Pokolbin

    Drinking up to around 2010.

    Excellent fruit upfront but I found it didn't last very long on the palette as the dryness and alcohol really kicked in quick. Still an great drop if you like your Shiraz to knock you off your seat like I do.

    Very enjoyable and gave the impression it will show much better once it's had some time to "calm down". Few more years and I expect to be rating it 4-5 points higher no doubt.

  • 2000 Mount Pleasant Wines Shiraz Maurice O'Shea 91 Points

    Australia, New South Wales, Hunter Valley

    Pong and spice on the nose. Purple to brick-red hues. Fruit abit duller than expected but showing good plummy, earthy characters. White pepper comes through at the back of the palette. Drinking this way too young, still showing lots of sweet oak. Leave for many more years.
