Introduction
This was a general italian wine tasting, however I stuck to the Brunello room. I picked out a few highlights and hit them quickly at this large event, hoping not to have to stay too long. It became a cattle-call all too quickly. Also marred by awful stemware. Pours were at times generous enough to do a proper tasting, but depended entirely on the table. As always at these events, scores and notes should be taken with larger grains of salt than normally.
2004 Le Ragnaie Brunello di Montalcino 91 Points

Medium ruby color. Alluring nose of almond oil, tobacco leaf, floral perfume and focused red cherries. Tart ripe tannins on the palate with medium body, good presence; elegant wine.

Medium ruby color. Earthy, barnyardy nose with some high-toned herbal notes. Closed down pretty tightly on the palate, but some good tart cherries and minerality.

Medium ruby color. Reticent on the nose with some floral and herbal characters; something like a field in summertime, and some animal notes. Medium bodied with grippy tannins and good presence. Tight though.

Medium ruby color. A bit fatter on the nose than the 04 regular bottling. Some red plum aromas, spice and earth. It's more interesting on the palate as well, flavors of pencil lead with grippy tannins and good presence. 90+

Medium ruby color. Cocoa and barnyardy aromas on the nose, with some acidic and minerally notes. Interesting and aggressive. Medium to full bodied with dust and red cherries on the palate, but somewhat empty in the middle.

Medium to deep ruby. Intense nose with elements of incense, cedar and pencil lead. Great presence on the palate, focused red cherry flavors, medium bodied. Excellent wine.

Medium ruby color. Nose of mountain herbs and floral perfume. Pretty on the palate as well, with red fruits. Medium bodied.

Medium ruby color. Closed on the nose, with some elements of earth and spice. Fiercely tannic on the palate, with touches of sweet fruit peeking through. There's clearly something here, but it's hard to get a good impression right now. 89+?

Medium to deep ruby color. Nose of tobacco, pencil lead and washed stones. Opulent on the palate with flavors of sweet wild blackberries; perhaps a touch raisiny.

2005 Casanuova delle Cerbaie Cerbaione Toscana IGT 88 Points

This is a blend of Sangiovese and Merlot. (I believe it's 60/40). Medium to deep ruby color. Earthy, cocoa flavors, fatter on the palate than their 07 Rosso. Definitely a more modern style.

Medium to deep ruby color. Aromatically complex, with elements of mineral, almond oil and floral perfume. Hard to believe this is just a Rosso. Focused black cherry flavors on the palate, with floral notes. Very pretty wine.

Medium to deep ruby color. Somewhat reticent but complex aromas of wet earth, walnuts and fresh tobacco. Quite dry on the palate. Very pretty wine. 92+
