Flight 1 - Tonnellerie Damy (1 Note)

  • 2006 Domaine Roulot Meursault Les Meix Chavaux 91 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault

    OUTSTANDING

Lively, fresh, and nice acidity. This proves that even young white Burgundy is fun to drink and it's producers know how to make wine the right way. Apple and butterscotch integrated together just beautifully. Not a ton of depth but the balance is correct and the finish is mouth watering and long.

Flight 4 - Tonnellerie Vicard (2 Notes)

  • 2005 Domaine Gouron Chinon Terroir 84 Points

    France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Chinon

    GOOD

I tasted this before knowing what it was and never would have guessed Chinon. There was a spice similar to Syrah and nice body. It wasn't as light as one would expect from Chinon and the gamey aspects I get are there but subdued. Bright red fruit on the sweet side had me very confused but it's a nice food wine.

  • 2000 Henri Bourgeois Sancerre Cuvée Le Chene St. Etienne 93 Points

France, Loire Valley, Upper Loire, Sancerre

    OUTSTANDING

This was, without a doubt, the wine of the night for me. The color was golden brown and looked as if it was a little older than 8 years. The nose and the palate had just a hint of aged Sancerre with match stick integrated with hints of tar and mineral. The fruit on the palate was fresh and lively grapefruit and lemon on top of vanilla and a little bit of the tar flavor. Interesting and delicious. Aged in 100% Vicard puncheons this wine is something special.

Flight 6 - Portugal (1 Note)

  • 2003 Quinta do Tedo Douro Escada d'Oro 86 Points

    Portugal, Douro

    VERY GOOD

Solid dark fruit with a huge tannic back bone. Great nose as the fruit and perfume smells rise above the glass without a swirl. Finish is long in length

Closing

This was the first time I was able to attend. Not only was the wine over the top but the food was top notch. Jason Moore invited me and I got to hang with other young wine makers and Sommeliers. It was cold outside but the fire pit and heaters made it pleasant. The cheese table was fun but the wine was even better!
