    This was delicious, perfectly ready and just flat out juicy gorgeous. Summer, cherry and leather on the nose, ripe and mellow in the mouth with plenty of earthy sangiovese character. I'm sure the lasagne consumed alongside it helped give it a sense of purpose. Really enjoyed this.

  • 2001 La Spinetta (Rivetti) Sezzana Toscana IGT

    I love the Rivetti style style, and it suits the Tuscan sun if this is anything to go by. Unmistakably sangiovese but richer, riper and purer than most. Still a puppy but some great stuff packed into this wine that will blossom in four or five years.

  • 1999 Poliziano Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Vigna Asinone

    The last bottle I had of this was great, clarety and serious, this one seemed clumsy and amateurish, too obvious wood and fruit that felt forced. Strange.

  • 1995 La Pousse d'Or Volnay 1er Cru Clos des 60 Ouvrées

    Lovely Volnay that has eased into silky maturity very comfortably. Cranberry fruit, sous-bois nose and lacy volnay sensuality.

  • 1986 Château Léoville Las Cases

    After a couipke of totally closed bottles this is the fisrt time I've had this and tasted its greatness. The fruit is super ripe under the structure and clean, elegant and pure. A wonderful, complex mouthful of first growth quality, this is only going to get better. Serious cerebral claret.

    This was a bit volatile compared to the last bottle. Cherries again but slightly sweet/sour, higher toned fruit and more marked acidity this time, not a faulty botlle just a neurotic one, certainly poorer company than last timre.

    Drunk at Chez Bruce with their fantastic as ever cheese board. Blackcurrant compote and pencil shavings, generous and exotic, especially by buttoned up Barton standards. Lovely two-times.

    Beautiful.. Stunning angelic nose, all terroir and stinky summer fruit, loads of character. Glides over the pallate with unnerving purpose as it builds and builds to glourious stereo technicolour fuirt and vineyard explosion. Truly inspiring its it quiet power. One of the most complete burgundy's I've had in a while.

  • 1985 Château Léoville Barton

    Chez Bruce again, with slow cooked veal, fantastic. Won't get better tan this, for me at it highest peak, subtley rich and ripe with an awesome graphite seamed cassis heart and a backbone of glourious earthy strength. Oozes breeding and class.

  • 1997 Argiano Brunello di Montalcino

    After an tight unyielding bottle of this a year or so ago, this was much more promising. Quite horsey on the nose, underlying hint of fruit, but makes up for it on the palate where its richer tand kircshier than exdpected with lots of freshning acidity. Good but the constanti's better.
