Very classic, very 2004, and pretty nice. Nose was rather pretty, almost Burgundian, with just a touch of meatiness speaking of the Northern Rhone. Oherwise, I got a sprig of bramble, perfumed, dusky cherries and aromatic flowers and spice. After some time, there was a fragrant stewed tea lift. Very clean, clear palate, with noticeably high, fresh acidity supporting flavours of sweet cherries, meat and a nice minerality. I worried for the wine a little, because the mid-palate seemed a bit weak and watery, but it filled up over time with an interesting spice cake character that carried into it somewhat shortish finish. Not stupendous - it will fill out more with age, but I do not think it will ever be a great wine. However, it was really pretty and charming wine, crafted in a classic, elegant style. A world of a difference from the much denser, and whole lot more modern Jamet that I had alongside, but equally enjoyable.
I found this rather nice, in a flamboyent, rather modern sort of way. Nose was a little reductive perhaps, taking a bit of time to settle down and blow off to show soy notes, wet earth, a tinge of vanilla, quite a bit of sweet plums, some mushroom and stewed red meat. Powerful and stewy, almost reminiscent of Bovril. The palate was a bit simpler and certainly higher toned, with sweet cherries being the dominant flavour along with a umami undertone and a sweet vanilla accent in the long, persistent finish. Not too complex, but there was plenty of density and power here, yet the wine was nicely balanced and rather delicious.
Possibly even better than the last time I tried it, but really far to young to judge at the moment. Lovely aromatics on the cherry, spice and fruit cake nose. The palate was marked foremost by fine, but tightly coiled tannins. Really aromatic flavours here too, morello cherries, pepper, a whiff of perfume, some smoke, a bit of mineral and strokes of vanilla as the wine moved into its mid-length finish. Rather hedonistic and yummy, but all the time underpinned to a fine and very grippy structure. Certainly one for the future.
