Schaumburg Binny's
Tasted Saturday, September 10, 2005 by AllRed with 912 views
Binny's is a local chain in the Chicago area, and frequently puts together these small tastings. They had opened the wines in advance, but did not specify how long. Pours were roughly 1 ounce, not much, and were tasted from Riedel Overture Red stems. Multiple pours were allowed of all wines except the '99 Lafite.
Listed in order tasted.

All in all a good way to spend a couple of hours on a Saturday afternoon.

Not too much fruit, seemed tired. Also a faint Worcestshire sauce note.

1999 Château Pichon-Longueville Baron 92 Points
France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
Dusty garnet color. Red fruit, currant, tobacco and earth notes; Amy mentioned a lead pencil note also. Very balanced, with lots of red fruit, cherries. Most complex to this point, but it finishes shorter than I thought it should.

1999 Château Montrose 91 Points
France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe
Purple/garnet color. Notes of cassis, spice, dark fruit and cloves. Very tight still, with dark fruit and black cherries. Tannic, with a long finish. 91+. IIRC, my very first taste of Chateau Montrose.
