Introduction

Dan Gordon's family through a fabulous surprise birthday dinner for Dan on Saturday night. Food and company were terrific ... and the SQN wine theme wasn't shabby either!! The night started with some sabered 1996 Ruinart and proceeded into the SQN.

Flight 1 - WHITES (2 Notes)

    Beautiful exotic nose has honey, spice, floral and lush fruit that seemed almost red-like. More exotic richness on the big smooth palate. Very waxy with terrific weight across the palate. Long, lush and fresh.

  • 2005 Sine Qua Non The Petition 92 Points

    USA, California

    Reticent on nose but the palate is anything but with creamy, rich and forward fruit. Very flashy with apricot, tropical fruit, honey and barrel spices. Yum. Long and lifted finish. A little heat pokes out on the back palate as the warmed towards room temp.

Flight 2 - PINOT (2 Notes)

  • 2000 Sine Qua Non Pinot Noir A Cappella 92 Points

    USA, Oregon, Yamhill County

    Full nose gives cranberry and spice. Palate is medium bodied with juicy cherry fruit, herbs and spice. Plenty of acidic cut provides a chewiness on the mid-palate. Finishes with floral and black fruit notes. Very nice, integrated and well balanced - but I'm left feeling I would have preferred this with its youthful richness.

  • 2005 Sine Qua Non Pinot Noir Over & Out 94 Points

    Terrific full rich nose has jammy raspberry, cherry and herbs aromas. Palate follows suit with sappy rich red fruits coating the palate. Juicy add plays counterpoint. Loads of exotic spice, flowers, herbs and black cherries on the long finish. Excellent - love the exuberance and energy of this wine.

Flight 3 - DINNER FLIGHT (4 Notes)

  • 2001 Sine Qua Non Ventriloquist 95 Points

    Gorgeous nose is full of exotic spices, black pepper and sweet rich red fruits. In the mouth, it is lush and brilliant with red fruits and exotic spice exploding across the palate. Medium-to-full bodied. Maintains its intensity, power and richness across the palate. Long and flavorful.

  • 1999 Sine Qua Non Syrah The Marauder 92 Points

    Rich, dense nose of black fruits is full and appealing doesn't express much delineation. Palate is medium-to-full bodied with rich black fruits, floral notes, exotic spices and herbs. Well integrated across the palate. Loses some intensity in the finish. Excellent - another I think I would've enjoyed more with in its exuberant youth.

    Beautiful rich nose has sappy red fruits and exotic spices. Palate is full, bodied big and rich exploding with lush red and black fruits. Floral notes, herbs and spice and complexity. Long and full flavored. Served blind this was in equal company with the SQN wines.

    Huge, explosive nose has loads of exotic spices, herbs and sappy rich red fruits. Palate is smooth, rich and supple with long-lasting, lifted fruit. Whoa baby - what a finish. Rich black fruit and dark chocolate unfolding over exotic spices. Totally delicious and seemingly at peak.

Flight 4 - AFTER DINNER FLIGHT (2 Notes)

    Mmmm - delicious aromas of rich, jammy black fruit and spice leap from the glass. Palate is full, rich and lifted. Loads of thick black fruit, chocolate, coffee and exotic spice unfold across the palate. Juicy acidity provides balance. Long, delicious finish.

  • 2005 Lillian Winery Syrah 92 Points

    Full, rich nose has loads of candied black fruits and floral notes that are smooth and polished. Immediately the quality of fruit is apparent. Palate is rich and juicy with thick fruit and acid working together well. Seamless and delicious, but not drinking with the complexity or panache of the SQN or Colgin tonight.
