such a huge and expressive nose. peach, spice, honeysuckle... but then the palate comes off kind of flat and flabby. No acid. A hint of astingency at the finsihline. This is about as sweet as I would enjoy a wine not served with dessert. This wine calls for aloo chole and bhatura, but i was expecting a bit more from this guy. ;p
whites @ adelsheim never get any oak treatment. Go for extended skin maceration to get more weight and texture out of their whites. Ben suggested all of their whites taste of the same family. 60% of their production is white wine. aromatic mineral nose. shale and chalk. nice texture, something a little spicy. nice light creamy texture. tangy lemon citrus. high and tight mineral acidity. others suggested and almondness to the wine that i did not really find. after the bottle was open four two hours i was open to this suggestion, but can't back it. very nice wine for $18.
this bottle has a toasted cracked nut/light popcorn to the nose. ben says flawed, so we open up another. i will revisit this later. let's just note that it's been open for about 2 hours.
pop and pour. creamy pineapple nose. bits of meringue on the palate. sweetness of cotton candy to the nose. touch of spice attached to the acidity. ben suggests it's arugula spice. oddly enough, after this bottle was open for two hours, i detect that cracked toast nuttiness, that led the last to be characterized as flawed. i love gruner.
components of soy sauce to the nose. cedary wood influence. Chocolate and soy on the palate. mouth coating tannin. good acid. woody finish. 3 hours later a really nice lean cherry nose. very syrah nose. deep palate of ink and tar. good structure. others suggests meaty, maybe texture or mouth feel. i didn't see that on the palate.
so undici is 'eleven' in italian, and as far as this bottling is concerned, a spinal tapian reference. i like this wine on the that alone. a nose of funk and fruit. a touch of salty tomato. more meaty that i expect from sangiovese, i guess this points to it's domestic upbringing. smokey finish. blind, i'd be hard pressed to say this was sangiovese.
huge nose of fruit. again finding a bit of a salty tomato note here. i love savory in wine. something a touch brussels sprout. inky palate. big big big. fat. such smooth black fruit.
young vines from the estate vineyard in martinenga, declassified to Langhe DOC because not indicative of barbaresco. Light color even for nebbiolo. big dusty cherry nose. black and red liquorice to the palate. definitely black. tar. such deep fruit for such light color.
