Sojourn Release Party

Tasted the 4 2007 release Pinot Noirs, 2 2005 Cabs, and 1 2006 Cab. Hors d'oeuvres were delicious provided by REEF.

• 2007 Sojourn Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast 90 Points

  USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast

  Bright ruby red. Light weighted pinot. Spicy cherry nose with wet earth. The palate was lightfooted with bright cherry and touch of asian spice. Came back to this one after the other 3 pinots and it was better than I remembered. The hors d'oeuvres were very tasty and strong flavored. They pummelled the first taste of this wine.

• 2007 Sojourn Pinot Noir Windsor Oaks Vineyard 91 Points

  More color than the sonoma coast bottling. Much more aromatic than the sonoma coast as well. More dark fruit influence and vanilla creme on the nose. The mouthfeel was fuller and once again darker fruit but still some cherry cola. Tannins were barely noticeable on the finish. There was a step up in ripeness from the previous bottle.

• 2007 Sojourn Pinot Noir Sangiacomo Vineyard 91 Points

  Similar garnet color as the Windsor Oaks. The nose was a different direction, almost New Zealand with the bright strawberry and cherry. Highest acid out of the 4 Pinots and would go great with food. On the finish a wonderful touch of mint.

• 2007 Sojourn Pinot Noir Gap's Crown Vineyard Sonoma Coast 93 Points

  About the same color as the Sangiacomo with deep garnet. The nose was the most striking of the bunch. There was a sweet candy strawberry cupcake scent surrounded by vanilla bean. The oak influence was perfect as to not interfere with the true bing cherry and plum flavors. The palate was balanced between the fresh acidity and medium tannins. This bottle felt the youngest of the bunch and will most likely change over the next 1-2 yrs. The finish was exacting and fun. My favorite Pinot of the tasting. Great job, Erich and Craig.

• 2005 Sojourn Cabernet Sauvignon Sonoma Valley 93 Points

  Deep purple crimson in the glass. The nose is blasting with cedar box, tobacco, and blackberry. Still young, but enjoyable now with balanced acid with the youthful tannins. Chocolate covered blackberries all over the midpalate and finish. I believe this bottle got 40% new French oak. 70% Mtn Terraces hillside vineyard and 30% valley floor. The overall impression was still young feminine wine. Not overly in your face Napa style. My favorite QPR of the cabs @$48.

• 2005 Sojourn Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve Mountain Terraces 94 Points

  Deep purple and blue color. Monstrous nose of black cherry, blackberry, chocolate covers cassis bombs. Wow. Rockin bouquet. The palate was weighted and viscous without being goopy extracted. I still get a feeling of feminine Sonoma cab vs masculine Napa. Big wine that demands very hunks of beef. Tannins are noticeable and not fully integrated yet. Decanting this one would have helped. Minute long finish. Wonderful effort.

• 2006 Sojourn Cabernet Sauvignon Home Ranch Vineyard 91 Points

  Blueish hue to this wine. The nose instantly hit me as blueberry cobbler with ice cream. Other said blueberry yogurt. Intriguing bouquet. Lighter style than the two previous bottles. This fruit comes from their back yard vineyard. The palate had more blueberries and the black fruit began to pop up. Tobacco, cedar box, and chocolate were also all in there. The tannins were a tad light and sour which led to the gentle structure, but this vineyard is still quite young. The price also reflects this @ $39 vs the $48 for the regular bottling.
