Introduction

12 of us got together to drink Red Burgs priced $50 - $150. Three wines were pre-2000.

Flight 1 (4 Notes)

Flight 2 (4 Notes)

  • 1995 Domaine Daniel Rion et Fils Clos Vougeot 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru

Nose of herbs, a little menthol on top of perfumed fruit. Very soft and pretty pedigree cherry fruit. Not unctuous enuf for me yet, but give this guy 5 years and WOW (hopefully). $88

  • 1996 Domaine Jean Grivot Echezeaux 96 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Echezeaux Grand Cru

Killer big nose, blend of fruit and earth. Very balanced palate with nice acidity, deep red fruits. Still unctuous for a '96 red burg. Long finish. Keept getting better with time in the glass. After 3 hours score went from 93 to 96. $139

  • 1996 Dominique Laurent Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Suchots Flawed

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru

DQ'd. Bad cork told the story. I hate that you can't get retribution for this sort of thing. Lloyd's of London anyone? $89
