  • 2007 Nigl Grüner Veltliner Kremser Freiheit

    Austria, Niederösterreich, Kremstal

    said to be the best in the kremstal.
    light nose of lemon citrus. smells like water. Ok, more like the citric acid bucket at the winery. there is some tannic extraction here. chalk on the palate, but not so much fruit.

  • 2006 Weingut Hirsch Grüner Veltliner Zöbinger Heiligenstein

    biggest perfume yet. mineral, floral, and fruit all in there. white pepper spicy. green pea, fennel. much textural weight. persistant finish. harmonius, albeit difficult to separate this intertwined complexity.

  • 2006 Weingut Hirsch Grüner Veltliner Reserve Lamm

    much more purity in the nose here. acid and spice. big weight to this one. very wide tropical fruit. ben suggests botrytis involved in the weight and concentration of some $$$ gruner. decided chalkiness. pizza dough. spritzy with a long finish.

    over the hill grapey nose. very aromatic. waxy. bees wax. anise lift to the nose and some sweet candy. on the palate. weighty, old fruit, spicy, tannic extract. interesting to say the least.

    expressive nose. spicy granite. greenness, cotton candy and lemon. mildly spicy on the palate. great acid and mineral balence. very nice at the $29 price.

  • 2006 Nikolaihof Grüner Veltliner Smaragd Im Weingebirge

    autolytic?? or just lightly oxidized fruit. acidity doesn't jump off the nose like the others. that's nikolaihof. the nose is a wide and expansive meadow. mellow with intrigue. dried flowers. again some fennel on the nose and then an awesome lavendar on the palate that finishes, wow.

    coming right attcha with orange bloosom. sneaking up on you from around the corner. tangy pep, right from the get go. spicy finish. wants to spritz, lemon lime. exotic pepper. my lips are tingling as though i just ate some spicy peppers. tingling. this is an intense finish. remarkable wine.
