Tons of old world funk and a bit of spice, would definitely not have pegged it as a new world syrah. Nice acidity and drinking nicely right now, although there are still some tannins. It was quite brooding and serious, and a little more lightness and fruit would have been nice. Also a little rough on the finish, but generally well made.
Definitely a Cali with plenty of new world fruit, but it's nicely balanced by chocolate and smoked meats. The fruit wasn't nearly as prominent on the palate, but the wine was still quite delicious and drinking nicely now. A touch of harshness at the back end kept it from being better.
Very medicinal and herbal nose with notes of dried prunes and raisins. Very smooth and light in the mouth, but still has lots of bold flavors and tannins that show it would benefit from a few more years in the cellar. Good, but did make a huge impression.
