• 2005 Freiherr Langwerth von Simmern Erbacher Marcobrunn Riesling Spätlese 92 Points

  Germany, Rheingau

  What a beautiful Riesling...scents of apricots, honey, and lemon zest. This wine is rich, and intense as the petrol scents on the nose smell like they are starting to work their way into this wine...glorious. If I had any left I'd age it another 2-3 years...then drink it for the next 15-20.

• 2005 Mas d'en Gil Priorat Coma Blanca 93 Points

  This beautiful medium bodied golden colored wine was completely captivating with scents of poached pears, lilies, and tropical fruits. The wine is a nice alternative to those looking for something a little lighter than Chardonnay in body. This wine had mouth-watering acidity and was deftly balanced with a flowing finish that brings new meaning to the word "long".

Reds served with a lovely Salmon dinner.

• 2006 Bergström Pinot Noir de Lancellotti 92 Points

  This wine was easy to fall in love with...and as i preached for the others not to rush this wine...I soon found my glass empty. With ripe strawberries, raspberry, and rhubarb dominating the glass. There was an underlying promise of beauty to come for those who are patient enough to let these bottles age. I will be re-visiting my bottles in another 2 years. An outstanding example of what Oregon Pinot Noir can be from an amazing producer.

• 1997 Francesco Rinaldi e Figli Barolo Cannubbio 92 Points

  With scents of fresh rose petals, freshly rolled tar roads, and strawberries rising from the glass I was immediately in love with this wine. There is nothing quite like a well aged Barolo and this wine was singing all the high notes tonight! It was a glorious accompaniment to the Salmon that we had. With beautiful structure, and about 2-3 hours decanting this wine was glorious as flavors of strawberries, raspberries, and bakers chocolate left a wake of pleasure sliding over and around my palate. A classic example of what Barolo has to offer. This can still go for another 5-10 years if cellared properly...and possibly more.

• 2000 Paolo Bea Montefalco Rosso Riserva Pipparello 92 Points

  Looking at the tasting notes below I would probably have run the other way at full speed...however, having tasted this wine I can't imagine what wine they were experiencing. This was a tremendous effort...decanted for 2-3 hours it was light in body and full in flavors as damp forest floor, truffles, black cherry, and bloody meat scents swirled out of my glas and wafted up into my nose. In the mouth the wine reminded me of a Gran Reserva from Spain as it was rustic, dry, and intense in the sour cherry, and cranberry component. What a glorious wine...I wish I had some of this...

• 2004 Lemos & Van Zeller Douro Van Zellers 92 Points

  This wine reminded me very much of the Quinta do Crasto Reserva bottling...a very dark and solid monster of a wine. Beautiful scents of lavender and lilacs rolled from the glass to mingle with the blackberry, fig, and dark chocolate scents. In the mouth it felt heavy like chocolate milk initially yet it finnished clean and light on the palate as the intense flavors of cassis, anise, bakers chocolate, and fig played through on the medium to long finish. For those that love something you can sink your teeth into this is a great wine. It would do well with a rare filet, or possibly even with a simple piece of chocolate fudge.

For dessert that was paired with a fresh fruit torte.

• 2005 Domaine des Baumard Quarts de Chaume Grand Cru 95 Points

  France, Loire Valley, Anjou-Saumur, Quarts de Chaume Grand Cru

  This wine was beautifully concentrated with scents of pineapple, golden delicious apples, and spice. This was served with a fruit tart that was the perfect pairing. This wine is thicker and more concentrated than the last time I had it in November of 2007. The wine is a classic example of what to expect from Baumard.
