Impressively light. Light, frothy, full of fresh lemon and incipient secondary notes, low level of perceptible sweetness. Poised, balanced, and simply excellent.
Pale lemon. Full, lush, peach fruit that is entirely dry and soaked with soil on the finish. Amazingly youthful, this continued to unfold on both the nose (with more herb tones emerging) and palate over several hours. Fantastic, classic Riesling.
Medium yellow, and actually lighter than the '02 Forest poured after it. Essence of Chablis nose. Lean start, then marvelous addition of flesh atop its core of driving acidity and minerality. This wine just kept giving more and more over the few hours it lasted.
Color a bit fuller than the '96 Preuses. Much more tropical pineapple fruit here than in that wine. This leads with the fruit, and the structure arrives later, in the back of the mouth. A richer style of Chablis with more than enough acidity to retain its typicity. Worth taking a look now since it is beginning to drink well-in fact, based on this bottle, it would appear to be ahead of the 2000 in development.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru
Unevolved color with barest hint of lightening at rim. Tangy nose of licorice, black fruit, and a good dose of earthiness. Gorgeous and relatively full on the palate with some remaining tannins, but naturally sweet red and black fruit and a degree of flesh that are unusual in my experience of '93s. Outstanding wine!

Even, maturing color. The nose defines "black licorice". Still fairly round palate with the licorice tones again predominating rather than the fruit. Softly tannic, medium length finish. I've had a number of bottles of this, and this one was unique in this particular aromatic/flavor profile. Very much alive, but not as appealing as previous examples which had more apparent fruit. As it opened, it developed a minty, menthol edge that seemed much more suggestive of a cooler vintage wine.

Deep and primary looking. Behind a whiff of surmaturite and prune is some lively raspberry. Full, round, not overly alcoholic, but very '98 in style. Delicious fruit, little in the way of secondary development, and in the end, a tad dull for my taste.

1996 Dauvissat-Camus Chablis Grand Cru Les Preuses

2002 Vincent Dauvissat (René & Vincent) Chablis 1er Cru La Forest

Color a bit fuller than the '96 Preuses. Much more tropical pineapple fruit here than in that wine. This leads with the fruit, and the structure arrives later, in the back of the mouth. A richer style of Chablis with more than enough acidity to retain its typicity. Worth taking a look now since it is beginning to drink well-in fact, based on this bottle, it would appear to be ahead of the 2000 in development.
