Introduction

Informal get together to watch arguably the greatest golf tournament of the year, and of course, drink some quality wines. It is always nice when every wine shows exceptionally well as was the case here.

Flight 1 (3 Notes)

  • 2004 Robert Young Estate Winery Cabernet Sauvignon Scion 92 Points

    USA, California, Sonoma County, Alexander Valley

    Nose: Pronounced sweet flower, an almost Rutherford-like dust and a fresh air quality. Palate: Sweet dark berry fruit with fairly firm yet accessible tannins. Some vanilla on the finish. This wine is well balanced and a solid effort.

  • 2004 Roar Syrah Santa Lucia Highlands 93 Points

    USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Lucia Highlands

    Nose: Big white pepper and bacon fat with hints of brine, lime, steel and tar. Palate: Solid acid with the briney/lime and tar elements showing. In the background some dark fruit, but this wine is more about unique secondary character than upfront fruit. Very much like a northern Rhone in style. Great effort.

  • 2003 Joh. Jos. Prüm Bernkasteler Badstube Riesling Auslese 93 Points

    Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer

    Nose: Big petrol with some earthy, tar hints (it would seem I get a lot of this from Bern. Badstube ~ very cool). Palate: Pear, apple, and a good dose of honey. Ample acid to keep this big Auslese interesting. Very well done.
