    Greece, Thessaly, Rapsani

    Tasted double-blind, decanted for an hour. A dark red wine to the rim, some violet there as well. Quite a bit of cassis and earthy smells, quite fruity, spicey with a slight smokey aroma as well, just a whiff of oak. On the palate this is medium bodied with lots of spicey red fruits and some tannins. We had this about a month ago as well, and it continues to be pleasing. A good QPR wine.

  • 2001 García Carrión Valdepeñas Pata Negra Gran Reserva 80 Points

    Spain, Castilla-La Mancha, Valdepeñas

    Tasted double-blind, decanted for an hour. A dark red with a violet edge to it. The nose smacks you in the face with toasty oak and buttery smell, some plums behind the oak wall, a very expressive wine. The palate is also dominated by toasty oak, but also lots of tannins, and some red fruit like cherry in the background. This was really not my style, just too much toasty oak. Kind of like drinking wine through a sweaty sock, not too good, but others liked it. 50+4+7+12+7=80

Meh, a bit disappointing this time, a wine we've had before and an oak bomb.
