Flight 1 (8 Notes)

  • 2002 Bouchard Père et Fils Meursault Les Clous 88 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault

Buttery nose. Slightly fat on the entry but well-delineated with an interesting minerally texture. Short length. Luc Bouchard said the parcel was near the top of the Meursault hill and can impart a minerality unusual for the appellation.

  • 2002 Bouchard Père et Fils Beaune 1er Cru Beaune du Château Blanc 82 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune 1er Cru

Thick, honeyed nose that seems surprisingly mature. Still youthful to taste and very fat, gushing even, especially with its buildup of honey on the back end.

  • 1999 Bouchard Père et Fils Meursault 1er Cru Les Genevrières 90 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru

Nice green hue to the color. Aroma is soft but layered, somewhat nutty. Good grip in the mouth, with minerals in the midpalate that also fan out on the very long finish. Luc Bouchard said this cru was one of his favorites for balancing the typical thickness of Meursault with a sound acidic structure.

  • 2003 Bouchard Père et Fils Pinot Noir Bourgogne 78 Points

    France, Burgundy, Bourgogne

Pure berry nose, like a barrel sample. Juicy, Beaujolais-like entry with flavors of thick red fruits like cherry and raspberry, but also noticeably tannic, which clamps down on the finish, but the fruit actually does manage to break the surface.

  • 2003 Bouchard Père et Fils Mercurey 79 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte Chalonnaise, Mercurey

Similar thick berry fruit nose to the last wine but more of a chord than a single note; there’s a scent of pine resin or something lurking in there too. Fruit on the palate is more tamed but here the tannins are unbearably strong. It just becomes a mouthful of tannin that vacuums out everything else on the back end.

  • 2002 Bouchard Père et Fils Beaune 1er Cru Beaune du Château 85 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune 1er Cru

Nice sappy nose, characteristic of many ’02s at this stage. Elegantly proportioned in the mouth with a thick core of ripe fruit in the midpalate. It probably isn’t showing as much at the moment as the last two but it clearly leaves a classier impression.

  • 1997 Bouchard Père et Fils Beaune 1er Cru Grèves Vigne de L'Enfant Jesus 84 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune 1er Cru

Leafy, autumnal nose, also very smoky. Smooth and balanced mouthfeel with flavors of tobacco and dried fruit.

  • 1998 Bouchard Père et Fils Beaune 1er Cru Grèves Vigne de L'Enfant Jesus 90 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune 1er Cru

Fascinating aromas of walnuts, herbs, antique oiled wood. Comes across supple and feminine on the palate but still shows plenty of structure.
