Brian/Karen, Patti, Ken/Kelly, Brett/Carol, Ann and I got together for dinner and some wine. All of the wines were very good. Unfortunately my notes and scores dwindled as the night went on. My favorites were Plumpjack Cab, Rauzan-Segla and the Italians. Ann's favorites were the Chappellet and Plumpjack.

Creamy/oily/buttery texture. Tropical fruits with some citrus notes. Buttered popcorn. Everyone liked it.

2007 Mario and Giorgio Brunori Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico Superiore Riserva San Nicolo 88 Points
Italy, Marche, Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico
Creamy mouthfeel yet still crisp. Apple notes. I would have guessed Gruner Veltliner or Sauv Blanc except for the heavier, creamy texture. Nice. My first Verdicchio.

2004 Tenuta del Portale Aglianico del Vulture Riserva 89 Points

Varnish, licorice and a little cedar on the nose. Dry, cherry fruits, chocolate, floral notes. This is a great value for $20.

1997 Plumpjack Cabernet Sauvignon Estate 92 Points

Wow this is good. Big time licorice on the nose, black fruits. I would never have guessed this wine was 12 years old. Still has loads of nice tannins and plenty of life left. A big wine.

Beautiful, intense nose with licorice notes. Showing some age on the halo. Earthy, leather, elegant, dry. This is drinking well.

Tar, Raisin, Cinnamon? on the nose. Slighty tart. Dry. Pretty big and still young. Definitely brunello.

2005 Venge Vineyards Scout's Honor

Soft cherry/vanilla nose. smells good. higher acidity than some of the other wines. More noticeable alcohol. Cherry and vanilla in the mouth as well. A blend of Zin, PS and Charbono.

2005 Turley Petite Syrah Library Vineyard
USA, California, Napa Valley, St. Helena
It is tough to blind turleys as the bottle shape is so identifiable. As soon as I tasted it I knew it had to be a PS. Slightly funky, brett nose with some raisen. It has classic turley smell and tastes of cedar (although faint which is good for me). A nice big wine but a touch hot. I am not yet sure where I stand on Turleys, but I enjoyed this one.

2001 Il Poggione (Proprietá Franceschi) Brunello di Montalcino Riserva
Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino
Decanted for about 2 hours. Smells awesome. Must be a brunello. A little bit of raisin. A touch hot. Awesome with the mushroom and onion foccacia. Unfortunately thats all I wrote down!

2001 Schrader Cellars Zinfandel Vieux-Os Ira Carter
USA, California, Napa Valley
Limited notes: Jammy fruit, a little bit of spice. It must have been good - it was the last bottle of the night and it was still drained pretty quickly.
