Being young, the nose is still very much alc lifted but already I can sense the brooding dark florals. Persistent dark red cherries offering lots of good weight to last. Also sensing an air of mocha, licourice and dark anise notes waiting to explode with time. Much more elegant expression than the Gaja Sperss.

Inkish plums and perfumed dark flowers and incense. More modernly styled with alc driven black plums, blackberries, dark mocha and coffee beans roasted with more black berries. Big but relatively more restrained than other parker leaning wines. I added additional 3 points on second tasting because this exploded with an absolutely stunning nose of dark brooding handsome black fruits. The palate had evolved quite a bit and became tamer on the alc , revealing its true nature more readily. This will be a really great wine in time to come.

Super interesting wine that smells exactly like a salted vegetable shop that can be found at a wet market. Its like entering the shop with all the sichuan style prepared preserved vegetable hanging out to dry . Also herbal and green. On the palate, this really is like a spicy savory vegetable soup with spicy kick finish and dry tannins. Really interesting wine.

A lithe of farmyardish scents, smelly ass and spiced raspberries. Lovely delivery of polished dark cherries that is covered with salty savory burnt caramel. Excellently well integrated wine. Burgundian with some soilyness. Finish just a hair short but a well made wine.

Sweet confected nose of blackberry pie compote. Thick concentrated fruits with some waning acidity and no finish. Very approachable now and competes head on with modernly styled aussies on their turf.

Dark confected fruits, pain grille. Sweet and somewhat artificial fruits, more so than the 06 tried. Some smokiness.

Bug spray , metallic minerality and hot stones. Good body of cherry fruits. Still tannic and really needs time to soften up but at the moment quite impressed by the package.

Dark confected blackforest cake and cherry liquer. Liquorised dark fruits and dried raisins. Standardish amarone backed by nice chocolate component.

Caramelised dark soy sauce. Not what I expect an amarone to be. Kinda watered down. Feels more like an extracted bordeaux.

Typical nose of syrupy uplifting sweet florals. Sugar cane and orange zest flavoured.

Intense floral bouquet backed by some dark choc. Succulent red fruits with coffeeish tones. Quite elegantly delivered for a priorat and lengthy exit too. Delicious.

NV Freixenet Cava Cordón Negro Brut 78 Points

Fresh fluffy white bread. Pretty enjoyable slightly ripe white fruits. I get snow pears. Decent quaffing but does fall flat quite quickly.

2004 Freixenet Cava Brut Nature 79 Points
Spain, Cava
Same fresh fluffy bread nose with light sweetness. Some minerals and chicken essence on mostly white fruits. Good drinking and easily enjoyed. Just suprising not dry as I would expect it to be.

2006 Bodegas Muga Rioja Blanco 75 Points
Spain, La Rioja, La Rioja Alta, Rioja
Smells like a cava with spritzy white fruits. Tastes like a cava without bubbles with light drops of light soy. Quite fat and somewhat flabby.

2007 Enate Gewürztraminer 76 Points
Spain, Aragón, Somontano
Spiced lychees, sweet flowers. Really tastes like fresh unripe lychees that are not in season yet. Finishes too quickly.

2001 Bodegas Altanza Rioja Lealtanza Gran Reserva 81 Points
Spain, La Rioja, La Rioja Alta, Rioja
Rotten vegetables on cherry compote. Pretty palate with silky red currants and red raspberries, some strawberries. This is beautiful and almost burg like but more like an 03 burg with the heat and sweetness. However, upon retasting, this quickly went downhill to become a totally different beast and becoming more crushed beetle like and finishing sappy. Dropped 3 points on retasting.

2000 Bodegas Altanza Rioja Lealtanza Gran Reserva Flawed
Spain, La Rioja, La Rioja Alta, Rioja
The first bottle seemed green with stems and some rotten wet wood. Felt oxidised with lots lof green tobacco leavea. I was torn between this being corked or problematic as compared to the greener style of the winemaker / vintage. The second bottle was quite different with savory meats, darker plums marinated with soy sauce. Cooked dark plums and dark cherries. Either way, I really think the bottles or the wine itself is problematic.

1999 Bodegas y Viñedos Labastida Rioja Solagüen Reserva 84 Points
Spain, La Rioja, Rioja
Marmite and dark soy sauce atop crushed beetles and cooked plums. An interesting but awkward nose. On the palate though, this is rather elegant with lovely strawberries, red fruits and some anise / coffee oak.

Ink, tar and asphalt. Thick and chewy wine with dominating dark berries, black ripe raspberries. Just needs more acid lift.
