Night before Father's Day Dinner

Introduction

Dinner at the parents. Started out with the Palmina and Bianchi Zin with cheeses, crackers and bread. Dinner (BBQ Sirloin Roast, Grilled Balsamic Shrimp, Roasted Potatoes, Garden Salad and fresh French bread) we started out with the Brunello and then finished with the Bordeaux. After desert we moved on to the River Star Allure during card games.

    A good under $20 Zin- a little too jammy- good amount of black berries, spice and pepper.

    This is a great under $20 easy drinking red wine. Great cherry flavors with great amount of acid. This is a very food friendly wine.

  • 2001 Castello Banfi Brunello di Montalcino Poggio alle Mura 92 Points

    This is a great Burnello that still needs some time or a long decant. A very strong Sangio wine- good amount of tabacco and red fruits. There was a little oak- but nothing bad IMHO. Will probably sit on this one another 2-5 years at least.

    An okay Bordeaux- a little jumbled and not together wine. Taste was mostly plum with some red fruits.

    I'm giving a raw gut score as this was the last wine of the night and my palate was going- but this was a great Petite Sirah, Syrah & Zin blend. Lots of dark fruits.

Closing

The Brunello was awesome and will only improve with age. I had bought this for my Dad 3 years ago at the winery in Montalcino. Was a little disappointed in the Bordeaux as it was jumbled.
