Introduction

Dinner with Clarissa, Michelle, Rob and I. A great fun evening with some great wine. The Pax was stunning to me a very good complex wine- completely opposite in style compared to the Orin Swift. Both were very good- I was just more in the mood for the Pax tonight. Finished dinner with a glass of the Noval 40yr old Tawny and creme brulee.
The table preferred the Papillon, but thought the Pax was good as well.

  • 2005 Pax Cuvée Moriah 92 Points

    USA, California, Sonoma County

    This wine was awesome! This is a complex great wine- fennel, berries, anise and cherries. This wine has multiple levels and improved with every sip. Decanted and immediately poured. This was my favorite wine at dinner.

  • 2005 Orin Swift Papillon 90 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley

    Good for what this is- a big CA Bordeaux blend. This is a classic Orin Swift wine. This is nothing like a classic Bordeaux, big fruits, chocolate, spices and a sweetness to this wine. This is a drink now wine. We decanted for 1 hour prior to drinking. Will buy another bottle and recommend.

  • NV Quinta do Noval Porto 40 Year Old Tawny 89 Points

    Portugal, Douro, Porto

    This was a good Tawny- but missing something. I don't think I could tell the difference between this and a 20yr old. Like previous reviewer- this is a "bruiser." I was expecting it to be a little more elegant as well. Classic prune and dried fruits taste. Great rich carmelly nose. Was glad I tried, but no wowing factors.
