    France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny

    Unmistably floral lifted. Light ripe cherries with a dash of angel hair root characteristics. Elegant but still exhibiting firm alc / tannin structure albeit in a very feminine manner. Love the fresh acidity with more florals in the mouth.

  • 2005 Domaine la Jolivode Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Beaune 79 Points

    Dark , almost opaque purple. This is extracted effort and I suspect the vintage played a big part to make this Hautes Cote de Beaune ... richer and riper than it would usually have been. New worldish pinot characters with quite a big alc structure. Fruits are heavy and extracted with powdery tannins. Not a lot of earthy character and mainly ripe black cherries driven.

    Smells and tastes of flat coke with dark cherries. Heavy body and some burnt fruit sweetness shows. Has length but stumbles a bit on balance.

Flight 3 - Bordeaux and the like (4 Notes)

    Not too shabby at all! The nose expresses bordeaux like aromatics , in particular , some pauillac. I get green bell peppers and a tad of leather. Supple and plummish berry flavours. Well balanced with just a touch of wet soggy wood. Hands down, I would have guessed a bord with some bottle age. Excellent price point.

  • 2006 Vieux Château Brun 80 Points

    I guessed bord left bank as the nose was dense ripe dark red fruits. Concentrated palate with quite structured tannins. I thought this has quite a high percentage of cabernet fruit and detected only the faintest traces of right bank supple fruit characteristics. Simple but fair wine. Definitely displaying bordeaux traits and I suspect at a very good price point.

  • 2007 Siro Pacenti Rosso di Montalcino 82 Points

    Lightly smoky with spice herb taint. Velvety texture with lots of small and red spicy berries cherries. Builds up in the mid with a decently strong finish. Hints of italian countryside earthyness too. Some of us thought this might be a blend with cabernet involved.

    Unmistably aged aussie from a cool climate region. I get some toothpaste coolness , a touch of leather and smooth plush spicy plums and black berries. Not too bad and very much enjoyable.
