Introduction
The theme was supposed to be Burgundy, but this was loosely interpreted to be wines that are Burgundian in nature. My two favorite wines were the 2007 Jean-Marc Brocard Chablis and 2006 Olivier Jouan Morey St. Denis Les Ruchots, which were drinking extremely well last night and are worth seeking out.
2005 Dehlinger Chardonnay 89 Points
USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley
Brisk aromas of crushed shells and ocean spray. Balanced and taut on the palate with notes of kumquat, candied lemons, and tangerine.

1990 Faiveley Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Aux Chaignots 86 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru
Complex aromas of wet earth, clay, dried currants and cranberries, roasted meat, and orange peel, but the palate just does not deliver. Offers earthy pomegranate, Asian pickled plums, and pine flavors on the attack, which fade throughout the midpalate and finish. Slightly past peak IMO.

2007 Jean-Marc Brocard Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos 91 Points
France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru
Precise and fresh aromas of almonds, macadamia nuts, crushed minerals followed by a steely palate of lemon pulp, limestone, and chalk. Terrific cut and tension, this is a wine that just keeps drawing you in for more. Great selection, Cris. 91-92 points and tied for WOTN.

2003 Domaine Matrot Blagny 1er Cru La Pièce-sous-le-Bois Rouge 87 Points

Ripe aromas of black cherries, mocha, vanilla and orange peel. A bit overdone in character, but richly textured and a nice mandarin orange finish. Some heat.

This wine probably needed a significant decanting, as it did improve about 3 hours into our dinner. Earthy notes of brown sugar, soy sauce, roasted beets, and cooked cherries. Woodsy on the palate. 85-86 points.

2006 Olivier Jouan Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru Les Ruchots Vieilles Vignes 91 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru
Elegant aromas of cranberries, ocean spray, and crushed minerals. Refined on the palate, with tangy notes of cranberries, white cherries, pomegrante, and sous bois. Dietz really liked this; so did I. 91-92 points and tied for WOTN.

2005 Dehlinger Pinot Noir Goldridge 90 Points

In this company, this wine was unmistakably Californian and a nice counterpoint to the Burgs. Opulent aromas of ripe cherries, raspberries, crushed minerals, and pie crust. Offers a balance palate of cloves, cinnamon stick, ripe cherries, and crushed shells. Zesty acidity and terrific minerality.

This wine reminded me of Dolcetto for some reason. Savory notes of bitter almonds, dried currants, and white pepper. A utilitarian wine. 83-84 points.

1988 Chateau Montelena Cabernet Sauvignon The Montelena Estate 86 Points

Sour aromas of cassis, kerosene, dried leaves, and anise. Seems a bit dried out to me, and I suspect that the still present tannins will outlast the fruit. 86-87 points.

Notes of cassis, white cherries, pipe tobacco, and cedar. Drinking at peak now, with some tart fruit and forest floor on the palate. A bit astringent on the finish. 87-88 points.
