The end of an era

Chas's (Black Adder's) second farewell party. This one was a little more refined with a couple of lovely wines.

Champagne on arrival
The white burg with scallops and black truffles and lobster soup
The red burg and Bordeaux with fillet steak and on into the night.

  France, Champagne

  Pretty much as before. Stood out a little less this time, palate seemed to lack some of the intensity of the last bottle.

• 2004 Domaine Ponsot Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru Clos des Monts Luisants Vieilles Vignes

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru

  I have little experience of Burgundy but this seemed a pleasant enough wine. No notes taken but full body with honey lemon and a crisp backbone.

• 2004 Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé Chambolle-Musigny

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny

  mmm - a little cloudy and the palate followed. Mushrooms, forest and asian spices. Could still taste the following morning but not one to get me hooked on Burgs.

• 1999 Château Léoville Las Cases 92 Points

  France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Saint-Julien

  More powerful than expected and a very good 1999. Decanted for a couple of hours and medium to full body with a plushness I wasn't expecting. This kept pulling me back to the glass, very moorish.

A wonderful evening; great location, people, food and wine. Just a shame it wasn't a few years later.
