This was a super evening. The food, wine and company were off the charts. Throwing yet another dart at my "I only like new world wine" mantra, the Champagnes this evening were outstanding and really a great experience. My favorites were the 96 PR Winston Churchill, 98 PR and Krug.
We were seated with three folks who'd been to these dinners before, but I'd never met. A pleasure to meet new people. Hope to see them again.
I decided to show these as a second flight because they were toward the end of the evening from other tables and I wonder if perhaps I didn't care for them as much because they'd been open longer/possibly the wrong temp/etc.
1998 Pol Roger Champagne Vintage Brut
France, Champagne
This was very nice. Slightly sweet.

2000 Egly-Ouriet Champagne Grand Cru Brut Millésimé
France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru
Yellow with a hint of salmon color, fresh, long finish, some sweetness in the mid-palate, nat as much as PR, high acid and toasty. Not as good as the PRs or the Selosse. Ok.

NV Jacques Selosse Substance
France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru
Sherry and fresh bread, light right out of the bottle and complex. Two hours later it was powerful, intense and concentrated. There was orange peel on the nose and the palate. Someone described it as "the zin of champagne." Nice.

1999 Philipponnat Champagne Brut Clos des Goisses
France, Champagne
Fresh and light. Creamy with citrus on the palate. After the Selosse, this was like a palate cleanser, but less interesting and complex than some of the others.

1999 Gosset Champagne Brut Grand Millésime
France, Champagne
From magnum. This had a heavy, musty nose (rotten egg?) and tasted like sweet apple on the palate. A fruit forward style. While I like a hint of sweetness, this wasn't good to me. Ok-

1996 Pol Roger Champagne Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill
France, Champagne
Outstanding. I enjoyed it so much that I didn't take the time to take a note. I just wanted to savor it. Gorgeous. My WOTN.

1995 Moët & Chandon Champagne Cuvée Dom Pérignon
France, Champagne
Citrus lemon, well-balanced, light, fresh with stone fruit, nice mouthfeel. Everything about this was nice, I enjoyed it, but it wasn't "wow". Not as intense as the Selosse and not as crisp as the Philipponat. Ok+, but I'd hoped for a little more.

1995 Krug Champagne Vintage Brut
France, Champagne
Sherry, cognac, lots of acid, long finish, complex. There was much to contemplate here and I could've spent longer with it if I hadn't wanted to go back to the PRs.
