Introduction
Seven of us gathered at Sea Change, Tim McKee's fantastic new seafood-themed restaurant at the Guthrie Theater in downtown Minneapolis, to enjoy a variety of mostly white wines. Dave Dalluge, Chris Larson, Simone Simon, Craig Vanderah, Derek and Diane Rucker, and I noshed on a variety of amazing dishes (the grilled octopus is to die for!) My WOTN was Dave's unreal '97 Dominus. Thanks to everyone for a fun night of food, wine, and friendship.
2005 Domaine François Cotat Sancerre La Grande Côte 92 Points
France, Loire Valley, Upper Loire, Sancerre
Classic Sancerre. A touch less exuberant than bottles tasted last year, but still excellent. Rich, creamy, loaded with grapefruit. Bracing and fresh, with a long finish.

2002 Domaine Pascal Cotat Sancerre La Grande Côte 89 Points

Third time tasted. Ripe and tropical, with Riesling-like fruit on the nose. The palate is ripe and a touch tart on the finish, exhibiting lime and apple-tinged fruit. Probably a touch past its prime, but still quite enjoyable.

1996 Chartogne-Taillet Champagne Fiacre 93 Points

Complex and fresh, with intense red apple, toast, and citrus flavors. Lightly oxidative on the mid-palate and finish. Fine mousse and a long finish. Really nicely balanced. Excellent.

2005 Vincent Dauvissat (René & Vincent) Chablis 1er Cru Vaillons 92 Points

Second bottle tasted; interesting to revisit this after a couple of years. Intense citrus fruit and stony minerality. Creamy texture. Ultra-long finish. Lively and somewhat coy, this is still too young.

2006 Joseph Drouhin / Drouhin-Vaudon Chablis Domaine de Vaudon 89 Points

More chiseled and leaner than the '05 Dauvissat Vaillons, tasted side-by-side (see TN). Slight reduction on the initial nose. Classically proportioned Chablis, not tropical in character like many '06s. Citrus fruit and a touch of hay/grass flavor. Well balanced with good acidity and a moderately long finish.

2001 Domaine Marc Morey & Fils Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru En Virondot 93 Points

Quite a find -- on closeout at a local retailer. This expressive, rich 2001 has an intense/orange marmalade nose and a rich flavor profile that verges on tropical. The palate reminds me of a Peter Michael Chardonnay, but with unmistakably Burgundian structure and acidity. Fresh stone fruits and some new oak that build to a super-long finish. Surprisingly opulent in personality, this is a steal at $30.

2006 Bouchard Père et Fils Corton-Charlemagne Domaine 93 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
Intense and concentrated, showing opulent fruit and a beautiful spine of acidity. Quite a bit of oak left to integrate (no surprise). Creamy texture. Terrific minerality. This got better and better with air and should be terrific in a few years.
