Another night of "meh". Nothing really lit my fire although the company was outstanding. I disliked both of my bottles. :(

• 2008 Domaine Tempier Bandol Rosé

  France, Provence, Bandol

  Golden salmon colored, I've never seen this before. Good acid. I remember this being interesting rather than good. Ok.

• 2007 Herman Story Viognier Tomboy

  Oily, sweet, huge white wine. Not a repeat purchase for me. Ok.

• 2001 Bodegas Castaño Yecla Solanera Viñas Viejas

  Spain, Murcia, Yecla

  Nice, this was an $8 or $9 bottle a few years ago. Can't beat that price. More dark fruit on the nose than on the palate, but nice. A bit drying on the finish. It is probably on its last leg now, but really impressive for the price.

• 2005 Clos Saint Jean Châteauneuf-du-Pape Deus-Ex Machina

  Buttery nose, may be closed, pepper on the finish. Big spices. This is nothing like my impression of CdP. Much bolder and darker. It is too young and not well-integrated yet, but the parts are there. Ok+
